Well since i was extremely bored i figured id pop in an update you folks, ive taken down 2x 55gals, 2x 10gals, and now only keep the 80 and the 30 up, ive got the 30 setup for coldwater plants, crayfish, and misc harmless fish, the 80 is still assorted africans, picked up a second highfin cat...

how do you get a siphon to go at the same rate as you pump it back up without calculating the volume of water the hose you use to siphon can move at any time - or must you use an overflow system?

use a piece of plexiglass, cut it to slightly bigger than the pouring areas on your hob filter, attach them in such a way the water hits them and rides them down into the water - the water from the filter is effectively injected into the tank rather than bluntly forced through the surface...
