What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Apparently the 50 peso bill has an axolotl on it and people aren't spending them because they're cute lol
And apparently the activity level of it is the same as a live one… so far my research has led me to find that they are very inactive in nature.

Forget what they're called, but there are European amphibians similar to them that don't move at all for years lol

Axolotls are actually salamanders, but they carry a naturally-occuring mutation that makes them incapable of synthesizing thyroxine, a hormone that regulates metamorphosis in amphibians. In the absence of thyroxine, they are essentially frozen at the 'tadpole' stage, but if you inject them with synthetic thyroxine, they will metamorphose into perfectly functional salamanders. Because they are 'frozen' at an early developmental stage, they have the capacity to regenerate many adult tissues and structures, which has made them a useful model system for studying various aspects of vertebrate developmental biology.

@lloyd378 stopped by and picked up my bumblebee oscar this afternoon. Then I moved a ton of little fish over to the 300. Im sopping wet at the moment and refilling a bunch of tanks that I moved fish from. The 300 looks like a flurry of activity now.

Trouble in paradise, the dominant red sev just couldn’t leave the other male sev alone. A huge 8ft tank and it was just hounding the other fish with a passion. It was upsetting to the gourami trying to explore its new tank, it kept acting as if it were going to get attacked. There were quite a few run ins in the 90 gallon with the gourami getting chased away by this sev. I thought it was going to lessen up but the sev is a bully. I pulled him out and put him back into the 90. The other two sevs I believe are male and female but are just not into each other but dont seem aggressive with each other either. Hope it stays that way.

A couple clown loaches found a small hole in the side of my large driftwood and they are in a cavity inside that opens to a very little hollow underneath. Im thinking they are stuck. I will move it out tomorrow and see whats going on.

Hope the loaches are ok! One of my fears is a fish wriggling into a hole and not being able to back out… like Nutty Putty.

This morning I see the group out and about so at least a few got out of the hole. Hard to count the group of 10 when they are swarming around.

Now the 90g has at least one colorful main focus fish with the solo male red spot sev. This is probably an ideal stocking level for that tank too. Not sure how he will do, or if he will just be too skittish now. Have to just watch him to see how he does. Might try a electric blue acara or something like that with him. Could add more hoplo cats or another type of bottom fish too.

Looking at my two empty tanks, a 65B and 40B and trying to figure out what I want to do with them. I almost want to do an African themed tank with the 65B. Maybe a Leopard bush fish, butterfly fish and a upper jaw bichir in it

Cant wait to see some growth on some of the fishes in the 300 since it looks so empty with all the little fishes. All the fish are eating from what Im seeing and the fish seem to be getting more comfortable with the high traffic of the living room. Its kind of funny to watch the filament barbs because the 3 largest ones from wet spot and the 4 smaller ones from Petworks tend to school separately. Almost as if they know they came from different batches of fish... just an interesting observation.

Kind of weird looking at the empty garage tanks, still trying to figure something out. The 65B has gravel which kind of means I shouldnt do a bichir but I love the black gravel in it so Im not sure what to do yet. The 40B is pretty much a blank slate and I can redo it all and could do a small sand and do a smaller bichir type in it if I really wanted. So I am looking to see what things I want to buy to change this up.

I’ve never been warned about having gravel with bichirs…. Everyone I’ve ever had lived in gravel, and the two I currently have also live on gravel.

Is the concern that they will eat the gravel, I haven’t dealt with that ever, if that’s case…. My two are delhizhi currently

Its believed they can ingest it and it can cause a blockage. It is a bit funny of a story but I had a bichir in QT that had a larger type of smooth stone which I figure was something it would not eat. Well it must have because I moved the fish into the 300 which had the small sand and I found one of the smooth stones in the tank. Pretty sure the fish had ate and passed it.

It is just so weird watching the 300 gallon tank and seeing all these little fish. So used to seeing a couple 12" plus fish and the big group of 6" silver dollars. My Red spot sevs have always been a bit small and part of me wonders if they slowed way down because there were three of them in the 90 and they just slowed way down or if they are so line bred that they just topped out at a smaller size. Will be interesting to see if there is more growth now from the solo fish in the 90 and the two in the 300. Im really looking forward to seeing the growth from the giant gourami since this is the primary focus fish in the tank. The one at Wet Spot didnt seem very large for how old they said it was. I will be happy if mine would hit 18" or so but we will see if it can. The tank is a flurry of activity with the clown loaches, filament barbs and denison barbs.

Realizing I need to be feeding a bit more to the fish in the 300. All the small mouths in there and I realized I was feeding to lightly and not everyone was getting enough food. Ive increased the amount now and everyone seems to be eating and doing well. Might just need to add a couple more roselines after all, school looks too small. Also not sure if the sevs are going to work out. The male/female pair are not really well suited but the male is thinking he is all that and starting to show some aggression towards the gourami at times, especially during feeding and blocking the food at the surface. Watching the behavior to make sure it doesn't get too violent. The goal was the giant gourami in the big tank, the sevs would have just been a bonus if they worked out.
