What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Went into garage fish room this morning and swore I was seeing the gourami going at a sevrum in the twilight. This is funny since when in full light, Ive seen the dominant sev chase after him and that the gourami is always cautious and watchful of these larger cichlids.

Got a response to my craigslist ad for the silver dollars. If they go this evening then I will need to decide what to do with the Oscar in the 300 and may just move all the small fish over into the big tank sooner than expected. Not sure yet how I want to do that... but will look super empty in the big tank with just a lone 12"+ Oscar, lol.

Silver dollars got picked up this evening. Was awesome since I pulled decor to clean and did a gravel vac too on the 300g. So two birds with one stone. Raised temp on heaters to try and hit closer to 80 for the upcoming clown loach move.

Craigslist is a great resource. Not so much when you live in the sticks though lol Heard gunshots a couple times this morning. Its fine because hunting season started lol I can literally watch two of my neighbors hunting from the back windows on the house lol I'm thinking I might be able to do 55 gallon drum aquaculture here. Rain barrels are ok but aquariums aren't. Michigan is very lax on invasive species, I can keep things like tench and other cold weather fish.

My son has really enjoyed keeping this flowerhorn…. It’s colors are slightly off in this picture as he is using a grow light on this tank ( one of my left overs ) that uses red and white LED colors which makes his colors pop more than normal IMG_3020.jpegIMG_3019.jpegIMG_3018.jpeg

They’re really beautiful fish with great personalities! I wish there were non-kok variants though because I just can’t get used to how they look when mature!
I don’t think this one will grow the hump as it has black in the dorsal fin which I assume means female ( based on other cichlids I have kept)….. it also apppears to be a standard red dragon which typically end up looking more like colorful trimacs than the super red dragons that’s get those huge humps.

But we shall see.

Interesting! I always thought both sexes and all varieties of FH grew the hump… goes to show how little I know about them!

Well, there is tension in the 90g growout tank with what is believed to be a dominant male sev and pretty much every other fish, lol. He is back to pit digging and is showing interest in the female so it means he is giving chase to the other male and on occasion the giant gourami. The 300 will soon be available for the movement of fish but I need to figure out how many of the sevs I want to move over. I still want some color in the garage so I might keep one in the 90 and move two over.

Moved the aggressive sev to the 300 last night. Was a bit concerned for his safety since I was putting him in with a 12"+ Oscar. The Oscar looked at him and that was it. Super chill and no incident. Hopefully the 90g will be calm for a while. I like the little splash of color the Sev is providing but really am trying to picture if I want all 3 in there or not. I dont want to loose the color and appeal of the community tank in the 90g either. Then the movement of fish to other tanks causes opening in the garage tanks that I feel I need to fill with new occupants, lol

With the movement of the growouts, this opens up a 65B and a 40B for something new... but what? Axolotl? Other cichlids? Something oddball?

Stopped by Petsmart in Lakewood on my way home yesterday and picked up frozen krill for the fish. Fed the puffer, red wolf and giant gourami the treat.
