get some shims and slide them under where the low side is. if 37g is the largest tank i wouldn't worry about the floor.

No need to use carbon, it removes the good and the bad, so its bad IMO, if you are set on using something use purigen. its rechargeable and in long run less expensive. http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Purigen.html
