What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Stopped by both the Petco and Petsmart in Lakewood on my way home from work looking for possible future tankmates for a giant gourami. Petsmart had a solo clown loach and Petco had some tiny ‘featherfin’ catfish. These are on my possible fish list. If their would have been at least 3 clown loaches, I probably would have bought them. Still on the lookout for them.

lol, my last trip down got me into the trouble with the giant gourami... which was in the tank with clown knives which I also seriously considered. I think Im still set on the clown loaches but I just am not sure since they are known ICH magnets. I have only kept one clown loach ever and it was a free fish that had got ICH as soon as I brought it home. It recovered and everything looked clear and it ended up getting it again and got the rest of the tank infected after I thought it was free and clear. Thus the theory of ICH always staying alive in the tank... Another debate for another time, lol. Anyway, I had to put that loach down or it died and it ended up taking other fish with it. So a bit leery on the loaches but I know it would be a good fit if I can keep them ICH free. I guess higher temps at the beginning are the key.

Stopped by Aquarium Paradise today after work and they had bags floating with new shipment of fish. I saw a bunch of clown knives… was tempting

I picked up my clown knife from them about 7 months ago! It’s now about 8” long and one of my favorite fish I have.

With that said, my WC Oscar was starting to nip at my silver arrowana, so I moved it to my jardini tank, unfortunately, the jardini shredded its fins and now it’s hiding…..

I need your hospital tank, dmd, haha

Its never ending when you have aggressive fish. Best to just keep them in their own tanks, yet thats what leads us to end up with so many tanks. I have my puffer and red wolf is solo tanks because of this. My hope is that the 300 doesn’t end up as a solo tanks for the giant gourami. So far he is being pretty well behaved in the 90.

@lloyd378, does your clown knife eat pellets? I would consider trying one with the gourami if they were pellet trainable.

Mine eats pellets, flakes, bloodworms, and guppies

Fish in my 90g community tank were acting weird. I fed them and they just were not eating. Last water change was a 50% with a gravel vac on Saturday morning. So only 3 days since that and pretty sure I used SAFE after the water change. Besides the fish acted normal on Saturday evening and on Sunday and Monday. Did a hardcore gravel vac and a 50% water change. The giant gourami was very dark looking before the water change but lighted up afterwards. Not sure what was going on but none of the fish look sick. I will watch them closely.

I got a Craigslist response to my ad for my silver dollars. We are supposed to meet up on Saturday. Will see if the guy shows up. I believe him to be serious since he sent me pics of his large tanks. Very nice mix of fish too. So now what? I still need to figure out what is going to live in the 300 with the gourami.

I fed very lightly in the 90g community this morning and the fish were eating and everything seemed fine. I think back to the water changes on Saturday and that evening the puffer was acting a bit off and not feeding with his typical gusto. Just seemed strange, wonder if the water dept. had done something different?

One of last years spawn where I only allowed the shubunkin male to breed. Hoping that silver / black is building a base for blue like daddy:) The orange/ white irridescence bits around it give me hope that it will be blues and yellows next year. Maybe even some side patterns forming too. A lot of potential in this one. Also have two tancho and an Apache (? Black and red Orange) that are promising. Probably going to cull the remaining 8 or so unless any show some potential beyond grey or orange. But it's about that time where they've had an entire spring and summer of sun, good food etc..

Getting this one out to see it was a chore lol Removed all the plants and such yesterday, set a fish trap with hides, food etc...

Caught two small ones probably from this years spawning lol Finally got this one by leaving a net in the back corner and feeding the opposite side. Still took awhile lol Looking into making a small seine net I can use to try and at least contain them to a side lol

@BPSabelhaus, Thats cool! I have been very surprised by the change in goldfish colors for the fish Ive had. A former "Apache" ranchu lost every bit of the black and turned out orange and my "panda" oranda that had a white head has turned almost completely black. My "Milk Cow" ranchu has been losing its black cow patches and is kind of turning mostly orange/white. While they have been fun fish to have, Ive learned that what you buy is not always what they end up as.

Especially when young. But even my mature male has shed much of his black for orange this year and he's 9-10 years old now. Then there's the pink and white Bettas with smaller fins and invisible beards that suddenly appear after over a year among "her" sisters lol
"Why you being so grouchy to your sisters? Wait a second...." lol

Whatever water issue that cause the fish to not eat seems to be gone with the extra gravel vac and water change. Everything seems back to normal now. The giant gourami had a tear in its fin and that healed up really fast after the water change too. I dont know how he does it but I will see a random tear every now and then and within a day or two seems to heal up quickly. I know its not aggression because the red sev doesn't even pay atten to him and he stays out of its way for now. The hope is that as he goes through his aggressive state that he will just get along with his current tankmates.

Trimmed the willows back. Big one kept tipping over in the lightest breeze, hence the leash.

This one also got heavy trimming but also a little more shaping. Willow grows fast lol But nice clear water too :)

Redid the waterfall outflow now that all the grass is gone.

Hi FishBoxers! Hope you’re all doing well. I’ve been so busy with the new solo practice. However, fish fever is starting up again and I’ve been moving tanks around the garage. Slowly getting rid of individual heaters since I started using an oil heater to keep the space at 75 plus the furnace contribution. Today I did water changes on the tanks that hit 80 nitrates, fed everyone and trimmed plants. Recently also finally set up the 150 with its own 75 gallon sump.

Today during my planning period, I gravel vacuumed and did a water change on the fluval flex tank I got from dmd.

My rusty cichlids ( mbuna) were struggling a bit as my last water change was far too much and I threw the tank into a new nitrogen cycle.

I plan to bring in some media and or some decorations from an established tank on Monday so they get back to normal, but they all looked to be doing well before I left for the weekend.

The koi tank is looking great, but I will hopefully be updating that to a 60g early next week too.

Been struggling to find what I consider pretty common fish. Looking for clown loaches and roseline sharks and the usual places here in Lakewood like Petco, Petsmart and Aquarium Paradise have all been out. I really dont want to have to order these common fish on-line. I should have purchased the large clown loaches I saw up at Buckley for $69 a piece because they were quite sizable and a nice group of 3 to start. But at that point I really wasn’t sure how I wanted to proceed. I think I have the final stock idea in mind for the 300 focused around the red tail giant gourami and I am leaning toward a very large group of roseline sharks and maybe a group of 7 clown loaches. But then I see a cool fish like a clown knife and I keep rethinking it, lol.

Did they sell the ones in Buckley?
