What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Hard to see but first pic is my uncles koi pond last fall and then his gold fish pond with the bridge. Koi pond is 8’ deep and also goes two feet under the deck to keep the koi safe from heron and or raccoons!

Decided to euthanize the goldfish with the swim bladder issue, was no way to bring it back to even keeping itself upright. Now this leaves me a choice that seems the most obvious and that would be to putt all 6 goldfish in the 90g and then it would open up a 65B for something else. Just no clue what I would want to do in it.

Had my son gravel vac and drain the stacked 75gallons….

I will spray down and slightly clean the filters for my former student later today.

I think her and her boyfriend may come to pick them up tomorrow, hopefully.

@lloyd378, that pond is absolutely gorgeous!
Yes, my uncle has two acres….. one acre off of the back porch looks like a Japanese garden with ponds, a waterfall, black bamboo, and Japanese maples, the other acre is filled with large hoop houses (like 10 feet tall) where he grows flowers for farmers markets and grows his own vegetables ( he also starts plants for family in them. His tomato plants reach like 6’ plus. It’s a dream backyard!

Minor success on a pond visit today. Still no mosquito fish, but a small bullhead was a fun surprise. Finally got a couple of the mini Lily pads to add to the Betta tanks and a couple more plants to identify and hopefully grow.

Best pic I could snap. Sunny and a dirty observation container. At least I wiped the mud off lol

How is the pond fed? Meaning water source that keeps the pond full?

Growing up, anytime we were at my grandparents in wollochet bay, in gig harbor, we would catch small catfish on low tide days where the fresh water stream would empty into the bay…. The water was totally brackish at low tides but salt water with the high tides. My grandparents always called them brown bullheads. In my later years, I always wondered if that was a correct identification as bullheads are typically in freshwater….

Stream fed. Catfish do well in all sorts of water / mud but will gather in brackish water to feed on the abundance. I'm used to them back east where they are pretty dark and fully freshwater. But I'd imagine shallower flowing aerated salty water would trigger changes in coloration. Pretty sure it's a bullhead at least, still a wee one.

Glad we tapped into the ducting for heating/cooling in the garage! Yesterday was hot and the garage was a bit warm but at least not unbearable. I didnt get motivated to do much out there, but I fed the fish and was thinking about combining the two goldfish tanks into one. I really dont want to disturb the perfect situation going on in the two seperate tanks but it just makes the most sense. This would open up a 65B for something.

Kind of thinking to move my male and female sevs into that tank for a little bit to see if I can get a batch out of them. They go through motions of breeding with the female laying and then the male ends up eating the eggs. Part of the issue I think is the busy community tank. I recently found a dead hoplo and thought it was just a weird spontaneous thing but at the same time another hoplo, the male, had the tip of a fin bit off and it was raw and red. This makes me think the male sev was very insecure and may have attacked the cats and killed one. The other factor is that there is a second male sev that gets chased into the corner regularly and I think this is stressing out the pair. So Im thinking to try a move for a bit and see if I have a fertile pair of sevs. Ive heard that with the red spot sevs that sometimes one or both parents are infertile....

Being hot lol
Topped off the pond. Definitely seems to be losing less water now with the new filter setup and the removal of pond grass. It has been hot though. Tub lily bloom.:)

Did some midweek tank maintenance, pretty much prepping for fish movement. I cleaned out an Aquaclear on the 90g goldfish tank and did a harcore gravel vac on it and the 65B goldfish tank. This is in anticipation of putting all goldies in the 90 gallon. This opens up a 65B for a possible breeding project of my red spot severums and then when I get the 40B set up, a place to raise babies.

I had a change in power dynamics in the 90 gallon last night with the larger dominant male sev getting rejected by the female and the smaller one now favored. This male has had at least 3-4 attempts at spawning with him eating eggs each time. I decided to pull the bigger male out and put him in the empty Fluval for the time being and see what happens with the other two sevs. I know its stressful for them to try and raise fish in a community setting so thats the thought of moving them into the 65B to be able to lay and raise babies stress free.

Morning gravel vac and water changes in the garage fish room. Tanks look pretty good for the moment.

Well, mosquitoes are breeding lol Holy cow is the 30 gallon I'm trying to turn into green water producing larvae right now. Gotta be thousands in there every day with tons of eggs. I'll take the boom while it lasts. Everything is getting live food because I can't feed the Bettas this much. I'm even feeding them to goldfish. I wonder how well they freeze?

Edit: I have pulled at least this much out twice today. I just scooped again lol Small fine net, that's all mosquito larvae

Did some extra cleaning in the 90 gallon goldfish tank with the second Aquaclear getting cleaned and the tank gravel vac'd out really well over the weekend for the goldies in the 65B to get moved over. I do not want to net them but use a bowl to catch and move so as to try and not hurt them or have any more swim bladder related issues. Thinking about moving the goldies tonight after work unless it too hot in the garage... even though we tapped into the duct work and have the AC in the garage it isn't really set up as an additional zone so it usually is still a little hotter than the house.

More heavy feedings today lol Trying to get a pic of the catfish, but it likes hiding and it really lightened up from black to a light tan. Keep confusing it for a female Endler lol When I put in food and coax it out though, it's an active little bugger chasing larvae.

Drained my 65B goldfish tank down and caught the fish with a small bowl and moved the four fish into the 90 gallon with the two oranda. So now six goldfish total and no more in the works. Did see one thing Ive been watching for a bit. One lionchu has an eye thats a little ‘wonky’. Not really a popeye but looks just a bit off in symmetry on its head. Could be the wen growth causing the eye to look a little out of sorts. Watching it to see if anything changes in it

Moving some stuff around by / in the pond. Trying to figure out where I want to move the willow so it shades where I want it to. Problem is where I want it the tree is facing 180 degrees the wrong way lol
1000018481.jpg1000018478.jpg
Rearranged more things since the tree is what it is lol

Yesterday after work came home and did a little extra tank cleanings. The 90g community got a filter cleaned and new sponge put in the Aquaclear. That sponge was rinsed and put into the 65B Aquaclear where the sponge had rotted. The 65B got a bit of extra cleaning too since it had been housing goldies and was still a bit dirty. Now its clean and ready to be used for something, either a pair of sevs or the solo male sev. This way I can finally get around to putting the 40B in place of the Fluval.
