Those Green Temple Hygrophila from Nick are amazing aren't they danka595?
I can't wait to see it grow!
It will grow big and fast. My main plants have leaves that are at least 6" long and that's just growing in aquarium gravel with very little to no ferts. I like the look of it when it is much smaller though when the plants is only a few inches tall. Hope they grow well for you all!

I was at the Aquarium Cartel Swap Meet today and someone had what they called willlow moss. I am prone to believe it after looking at some photos. It was much bulkier and had larger leaflets than Java Moss. What I have, I had ordered it from a company that has a substitution policy which is fair enough. However, it seems they didn't label the substitution as what it actuallly was so I may have unintentionally pawned off java moss as willow moss. It is still darker and slower growing than what I already have as java moss (messy stuff this) but it doesn't look like what I saw today. It is probably a strain of java moss developed to grow slower or simply originates from another local so has slightly different characteristics.

I'm still not 100% sure of this because what I saw at the Swap Meet today was willow moss that had been harvested locally. Was the person that harvsted well enough aquainted with it? I do not know.

For that matter, the moss at the swap might have been a sphagnum so I am at a loss.

Does anyone have willow moss they are certain is what it is supposed to be?

HOO, Makes sense but what I saw today was obviously a totally different species. Sometimes it is tough to tell species apart. Some times it isn't.

I saw that moss at the swap meet and have kept it before. It is Fontinalis antipyretica Hedw. Gorgeous plant that is a challenge for most to keep in traditional tanks (it prefers cold temps < 70 degrees), very low light (most LEDs would kill it in a few days) and it needs CO2 injection. That said, WA ecology does recommend it for aquariums in some of their brochures...

If you can make it work (I did for a few months), it is a GORGEOUS plant.

Not to muddy the thread but MrTom...might this be where your "creature" came from as the document shares
Importance of plant: Provides habitat for aquatic insects, larvae, and other microorganisms. Small fish species will nest in it. It is a popular plant for cold water aquariums.

Very possible. I quarantined and gave them a salt bath. Reading up on the eggs a bit, they may have survived.

Does anyone know of what the current offer is? Or are we still waiting for an offer to pop up?

Whichever one it is, let's keep this topic back on "planting it forward" :) Keeping side comments out of this topic that isn't related to planting it forward should be limited so as not to bump off current offers and the like.

If need be, we could create a new topic that talks about potential Aquarium pests. ;)

Sorry about thread diversion but I had sent a variety of java instead of willow moss and wanted to cop to it. I needed to apologize to all on thread is all.

I await the list form MorganAE with curiousity.
