What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Went to aquarium paradise yesterday to get some blood worms. Saw they had wild caught Oscar’s which I’ve always thought were cool since they are more silver and black.

I also inquired about getting some fish for my classroom. I’ll have to special order them in, but planning on getting a group of these ( see pic).

Yay, I think I can stop gloating about all the mosquito larvae lol The tank is finally making the turn to green water and I don't think the mosquitoes like it as much now.
Collected seaglass yesterday, had some fun with it.

Really digging this baby goldfish.
Gary the frog made an appearance when I was moving and adding some plants to the baby goldfish pond.

Tuesdays I "babysit" one of the kiddos friends. We basically spent the day playing with baby frogs. Until we found a baby garter snake and she tried feeding it a frog lol Beautiful little thing hanging out around the tubs presumably hunting baby frogs instead of eating the slugs that eat my strawberries lol But that's nature and more good signs after the frogs breeding that my tubs are doing well. The water brings so much life. Birds feed on all the insects, bath and drink in the water. Squirrels and other animals drink from it. Mostly the dogs, but I've seen possum stop by before. The low boggy one can be mostly accessed under cover and critters definitely use that to get in from the green belt behind the house.

Love the blue on the belly. Had to net this one to take a pic. Must have just been basking because it just wasn't having it lol Bit my finger with its tiny little mouth and was really going at it lol I moved it to a safe space so the dogs wouldn't bother it. Love garter snakes. Need to create some actual properly placed hides for them. Good for eating garden pests like slugs and snails.

Another mystery hoplo cat death in the 90g community. This time the male was the one to go. A while back he had a fin bit and it looked all red but that had cleared up and nothing suggested that he was going to pass. So I now have two females left and Im not sure if I want to try and find some more hoplo or just wait and see what happens to these two. This tank has always been a very healthy community so its a bit odd to see these deaths in fish normally known for a bit more longevity, but then again they are line bred albinos, so who knows.

I have two baby hoplo albinos… not sure if one will turn out to be a male, but if it does, I have zero issues getting it over to you.

Right now they are the size of a juvenile Cory cat so it’s hard to tell.

Now to find a small water pump and skinny tubing lol Coulda / shoulda printed it larger. But I want a small accent piece, not a huge center piece.1000018666.jpg

That's the spot. Put it several places, but this is perfect.
Who needs a small pump when you can use a flow pump instead lol I left the top port open.

Got a better pic showing the color change and shine better :)

Had to move it to the baby pond since I unplugged their bubbler for it lol So now to do a better bracket and install the riser / restrictor on the top outflow to increase the goldfish spitting distance and give a little fountain too.

Growing nicely. Loves hanging out under the filter despite a few nice hides for it. Definitely be in a tub by September probably. Frogs should be out by then and the endlers in there should have fry and such it can get fat on in addition to detritus worms, snails etc... it can feed on in the winter.

Small change. Those tubs used to sit facing out. Turned them and spaced a little more out so the shallower marsh tub with marginal plants can be seen better, irises can spread etc... Need to get more soil to fill in a bit but want to give it a couple days of seeing how the sun hits things. Need to top them off with rain water too. Tap kills off the daphnia so it's probably not good for the frogs.
The middle tub is the one I want to put the catfish into. Has a good population of detritus worms to feed on.

The round tub I think I'm adding a lily bulb to. It gets the most sun but hardly has anything in it other than willow cuttings to root. Hmm or maybe I transfer the cattails out of the shallow and into there...

That did not take long lol Filter was nasty plugged up lol Probably have to do it again soon. All the plant roots had a lot of crud on them from just having a bubbler. Much of it is gone now and you can see the pink and red roots of the willow now. I had assumed a small blockage in the small outlet I used, but nope. Filter was nasty lol
Fed everyone more duckweed again. Doesn't last long :) Moved a few more things into the future catfish tub. It's growing fast and it seems there's not as many fry in that tank lol. Going to cull tanks tomorrow and start getting some strains back on track / how I want them. Move the unwanted outdoors to provide more food for it until winter.
Single move today, just a single sword french blue male with purple irridescence into a 5 gallon of female blondes I've had chilling for a month or so.

Been out working in the yard (or rather in the shed), so I haven't done much more than drain and fill of the tanks to do necessary water changes. Been trying to use up fish foods that were 'experimental' before ordering anything else. Haven't really seen any major benefits to using the Dr. Bassleer fish food so Im using them all up and likely just going back to the usual mix of foods which includes NLS and Northfin. Been on the hunt for new fish for the 300. Really wanting a catfish of some sort and like the moustache cat but having a difficult time finding one still. The other possibility is a featherfin syno, but would like a slightly larger catfish than that one. That's all that been going on with my fishkeeping at the moment.

I like the smaller species of syno cats…. The large ones always end up looking deformed and or obese

Catfish or filter? I'm sure the filter won't be long lol Catfish I'll get when I move it into an observation tank to move it. Otherwise it tends to chill towards the back of the canister just out of focus.

Update on my arrowanas.,,,

The silver eats large crickets, blood worms, and the hikari sticks. It is currently about 7-8” but still skinny and not very tall.

The jardini only eats frozen foods, other fish, and large crickets. Crickets aren’t really filling it up though as it can eat about 8 large at a time. It is also about 8”, but it’s taller in the body and twice as thick. I keep trying the pellets but only the large pleco and the 7” clown knife will eat them. The jardini will either need to be starved for a week or I need to put it in my silver arrowana tank to it can learn from. It.

No rush yet, but I’d like to get it on a staple food.
