What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Hows the new larger tank treating you?
I'm enjoying it so far. I had to put some weir guards in, the teeth were just too big for the fish I enjoy, had a couple rummynose go through and not really do well with the trip, have several Endlers still in various parts of the sump as they clearly enjoy the ride. I finally said enough was enough the third day in a row I had to roll more than a dozen BNP fry off the filter mat and put them back in the tank. It's cool how they will rasp onto your finger prints and not run away though.

There are a couple other growing pains, I have some hydra, no big deal as I don't keep shrimp and am not breeding anything on the fragile side. There are some cool looking little jelly fish looking guys (microscopic) I can't really identify as they don't seem to fit anything fresh water I have info on, in the super super close ups you can see them both to a point. The Hydra (red)look like hydra, and the little "jellyfish"(green) look like water spots.

We're looking at things you really can't see with the naked eye here, only clear enough as this shot was a multi focus hdr burst, the other shots weren't so they look much darker, you can still zoom in and see some of them though. In a sample cup of about 16 ounces of water you might find one of each, so it's not as dense (or an actual problem) as this single camera shot through 2 feet of water makes it seem lol.

Plants are shooting new leaves and everything is coming along though, really enjoying my sunset and night modes, I had planned them for that 55 rack and am glad I went ahead with the idea on large scale. I was worried at first about a light colored background; I'm using privacy film on the back of the tank and shooting light at the wall behind it like a "wall washer" in spotlight mode. Combined with the dimming lights it's pretty dramatic and much nicer looking than the version I had on the big rack.

Cleaned a couple tanks this morning and then ran and did some errands. @lloyd378 swung by in the afternoon to pick up some supplies I had been holding for him. He took my Monk tetras to add to his 75 community in which he already had 4 so now a nice group with the 10 he got from me. Since I had the tank drained already, I cleaned the filter too. While I was at it, I moved the 4 swordtails in with the sajica.

Yesterday I had stopped at Aquarium Paradise and looked around and picked up some frozen food.

Thats all the fish keeping excitement for now… but more to come since I have an opening for some schooling fish for the 46 bowfront now that the Monk tetras are rehomed.

Haven’t been on for a while, but today I decided to rehome my wild caught Oscar a hybrid catfish, and a red jewel cichlid to aquarium paradise. On a whim, I texted DMD to see if he was around, he was and he also gifted me these awesome monk tetras. When I got home I did a water change on my planted 75g and then added in the ten monk tetras. Turns out that I actually still had 5 and not 4, so now I have a fairly robust school of 15. Though nothing really chases them so they don’t participate in the typical schooling behavior.

Tomorrow, I plan to give away a 29g glass tank to the first Facebook hobbyist that can make it to my house. Haha.

That will still leave my 7 tanks, but once I figure out a plan for my turquoise severum and some unwanted native fish that my one of my neighbors dropped off, I will also be tearing down a 125g and giving that away too ( it’s the 5’ acrylic tank that bows in the back but still holds water just fine).

I also picked up 10 ghost shrimp for my fahaka puffer but he didn’t seem too interested since they are so small and he is roughly 9” now. He still prefers the frozen krill.

Their 3rd spawn since May 8th….

The first two were all eaten by tank mates, this time I removed everything but a sailfin pleco so it will be interesting to see if anything survives ( I do believe there might be a couple of fry from a previous spawn hiding under a log but they are too small to eat these new ones.

Not fish related but I went through my old email receipts that I had been hanging on to for years... Dont know why I needed to know I bought some fish food 10 yrs ago, lol. 99% of the emails were things like this. Sometimes cleaning up the electronic files just gives you a bit of accomplishment.

Water change morning. Attached my pump to a sprinkler and used it on lawn and plants in the back yard. Been turning off the filters on the 300 when I do this so I can do very large water changes. Ive been working in the yard so Ive pushed out water changes a bit further apart than I like so larger water changes to compensate.

Picked up a betta from Petco. I added it to the 46g bowfront becasue it was so empty looking. Poor little guy is trying to adjust from a little cup to a big tank and stressing out a bit.

I was a bit pricey at $25 but I love the color and fins, its called a "Pink Orchid"

Forgot to get pics but while at Petco I also picked up 4 golden wonder killifish. Ive never kept them before but they were pretty outgoing and colorful so I will see how they do in the 46g bowfront.

Having moved the swordtails out of the 46g bowfront and putting them in with the sajica resulted in the loss of the secondary male. I truly believe the dominant male took it out. The bigger tank just did not have all the hides like the smaller planted tank. The dominant male and the two female are doing great and it seems their boldness has made the sajica more comfortable too. I hadnt really thought of the swortails as dither/target fishes but the cichlids seem to like having them in there with no aggression shown towards them at the moment. Still not getting any breeding out of these guys though.

Today, I also stopped by my wife’s office. I removed the two Oscar’s from their 90g ( dropped off at AP) and replaced them with 3 rainbow cichlids from fishguy1978 and 3 small polar blue parrots ( think blood parrots crossed with convicts).

These should give the kids in the fall something new to look at while they wait!.

Lost another big bala shark this morning. It was the smaller of the two I had and it measured 12 1/4”. I think it freaked during the water change and hurt itself. As I was refilling the tank it was doing the death spiral. Now Im down to the one bala. Im not sure on its age since it was picked up at a large size already. The tank looks very bare… I need to find some new, larger occupants.

Letting nature take it's course in the big tank has been a struggle as I just want to clean and fix all the little balance issues.

Anyhow, in the balance issues (hair growing above some java fern) I uncovered what I think are wriggling tetra eggs. Guess I'll put the hair back and hope for the best for the little guys. Might be boiling some egg yolks later to try and feed them if the bigger stuff doesn't have a snack.

Are you sure they’re tetra eggs? Most tetras are egg scatterers. That’s a mass of eggs which could be from the woodcats!!

I'm never sure of anything in this tank lol. They are like that in about a 12 inch area all throughout my longest section of java fern, also all over the sand. When I've watched my silvertips try to spawn they are fairly stationary, usually the female is pressured into a corner or planted area and the male is above her. Looks pretty violent/aggressive honestly lol. They've never been successful as they've always been eaten. It is also possible it's the woodcats, I don't know what their eggs would look like, but the pH is down in that zone that allot of tetra or woodcats would prefer. Just in egg appearance I know it isn't the Otto's, isn't the BNP, and that only leaves silvertip, rummynose, or woodcat.

Speaking of baby cats, I think I might have to go sell off some BNP pretty soon. How big do people usually let them get before selling? I have probably 100 in good health and various size/batch. The larger batch is about 3/8".

One of the woodcat breeders on planetcatfish said those look like woodcat eggs. They lay a mass like a frog spawn. <3
