just a couple of photo updates.

Some of the babies from my CBS mom are getting a bit bigger and there's quite a variety. She apparently has some golden bee, CBS and CRS genes. (Well atleaast the babies do).

These two little ones next to the BKK are siblings.

I ripped out my fluval substrate and this is what I've been putting together. UGF, on the pipe I drilled a bunch of holes and then a sponge over the holes. I topped it with eco complete and ammazonia

The purpose is to create a biological filter factory that should be very beneficial for the shrimplets.

So sad I found big berried Golden Bee Dead the other day. Not sure what happened but sometimes it happens and it's always a sinking feeling and then multiplied when you see her with eggs.

I've seen some folks with success in artificially hatching eggs so I proceeded with a little dissecting. By the time she made it on my operating table, she kinda smelled like rotting shrimp. PEEWWW.

I managed to removed the eggs still attaching to the fans found under the belly and left them in a net near the bubbles of my sponge filter. I had high hopes until the next morning I noticed that they had all been eaten!!

I should've covered them somehow. sigh.... you live and you learn.

Ugh, that sucks. :( This happened to one of my big blue velvet females a couple of weeks ago... not fun.

I tried to "incubate" eggs from a deceased CPO female in a tea strainer a while back and had the same problem - likely the snails got them, but could have been shrimp. It's doable but very difficult from what I've read.

I hope the rest thrive for you!

its the worse feeling isnt it? Paranoia sets in and then you start to wonder if there's some disease that will wipe them all out.

But then again these guys have a short life span and she was pretty big so I suspect she was probably at the end of her line.

Sad to hear you had the same issue but atleast there's comfort to know that it's not too uncommon.

So I hope I can see these guys to adult hood.

I see 3 babies that resemble Panda Mosuras and or Blue Bolts and one regular panda.

Thats an adult wine red that photo bombs the baby about half way through.

You should be. UNSUBSCRIBED! :cyclops:

Nah... I'll stick around for the real deal. You need bigger pockets to fit your camera ;)

My Black BKK turns out to be a female. She's been missing since I last saw her with some blue looking eggs a few days ago, which could mean she's either dead or berried. (I've seen several of the CBS females do the same once they become berried just to reappear again after they've released, so I certainly hope she's just hiding.)

So I used to go to the store and buy organic spinach for a few dollars each time to feed my shrimps, but I've never been able to use a whole bag before everything would just begin to rot.

Seeds are only a buck. So lately I've been growing my own in an emersed setup. Nothing more gratifying then growing your own food source.

I'd pluck two giant leaves, nuke them in some water and the shrimps love it.
