Re: Section dedicated to aquascaping

Seen some pretty good tanks here. Would love to hear what inspired them, what types of items were used and where they were obtained.

It would be nice to get notified when a post on the gallery gets a comment. Since there is no "feed" for it, we can't find out when a comment has been made. Then the gallery could become this "section" on what inspired that tank.

+ 2 I like that!

However pictures with profiles would be different than an actual forum spot. In a forum dedicated anyone will be able to post topics pertaining to aquascaping. Mainly one could talk shop about Amano aquascape, Dutch, Asain themes, South American biotope, African biotope/aquascaping, W. African, ect...

I think plants and inverts is a great place for that kind of discussion.

Re: Section dedicated to aquascaping

Well. It makes sense to have it in there. BUT what about aquascaping/hardscaping an african tank or goldfish tank or asian olny fish tank or American tank. Would have to be in different threads. Too confusing to new people.  Right?

Or showing off the new scape with a underwater water fall. To explain how to do it. Where would this be at?

Re: Section dedicated to aquascaping

The latter topic sounds like eminent domain of DIY :) The former topic about African/goldfish/Asian (I assume Asian = river setups) is more blurry. My vote is for folks to make the best educated guess as to where to place them (Africans in the African cichlid section, goldfish maybe in cold water?, Asian rivers would probably land in general FW?). The folks in the community can chime in on the thread if it needs to be relocated to a better fit. Mods do this already for all topics, though fairly silently.

Another option is the "photos" section... which is where I think these will all gravitate to anyway. Most of us don't say "hey, look at my aquascape"... we tend to say "hey, look at my tank yo! it is aquascaped!". :)

I don't think lack of a dedicated aquascaping section has deterred folks from posting their setups, or from posting links to other folks' aquascapes. Has it?

Re: Section dedicated to aquascaping

SirWesDragon has got the idea.

MRTom, I am okay either way but sometimes I sit here scratching my head trying to figure out exactly  where do I post my aquascape ideas? Plants and Inverts, DYI, General freshwater, ect...?

To me the DYI section really isn't about aquascape. It's about re-sealing tanks, plumbing, DYI CO2 gadgets, Home made LED stuff and more... Sure to  add "how to make a rock" , then use it in aquascape. General freshwater fish? No... Plants and inverts play a big part in aquascaping, but much has to do with placement and ideas in an artistic  sort of way.

Anyway, I am good with however this works out but anyone that's serious about aquascaping can appreciate a designated forum to surf through.

I do understand that there maybe not enough members to keep it hopping , and again I don't mind the way it is. This is my favorite forum by far!

Re: Section dedicated to aquascaping

Maybe a more general set up section ... so not just aquascaping, but filters, heaters, tank sizes, sand, ect ... would give it more traffic than one dedicated strictly to aquascaping (though equipment already has a section so maybe not).

Equipment is currently found in the 'DYI, Equipment &  Water Chemistry' forum.

But packaging it up with something else is a good idea. Like general setups, tank maintenance. Can split the Plant and invertebrate up and put plants in with aquascaping since they do go hand in had a lot of times. I never really understood why plants and inverts where together...

That's cool. Invertebrates as it's own forum. Aquascapes and freshwater plants together. This may even tie in the African rift lake people with hardcore aquascape plant people because rift lake people would share their aquascape ideas, projects with everyone. I hardly venture to African cichlids. And even Salty's may venture over to share their aquascape ideas, projects and what not.

If this was the case then we could leave freshwater plants completely out of it and give aquascaping it's own section all together....

This way it would be more of a general addition. Of course corals, plants, ect could be discussed within each thread pertaining to the topic but the focus would be hard scape , aquascape...

the thing is to locate the Aquascape/Hardscape in section. Where we dont have to search each thread. Cause hardscape isnt just for goldfish, big cichlids, african cichlids.  Aquascape can be fishless, with shrimps, community fishes, smaller cold fishes, low tech, hi tech. Then we have to look at each thread for ideas or inspiration. Maybe just add a section aquascape/hardscape idea section and keep everything the same. Plants are plants to talk about separately from aquascape/hardscape section. Plant it forward dont belong there, right?

Re: Section dedicated to aquascaping

Yes, agreed SirWesDragon. But you know within the thread plants, corals, livestock will come up that's associated and that's okay. However, plants in general probably should be separate.

Re: Section dedicated to aquascaping

Each of these sections are self explanatory. But Aquascape/Hardscape is where we post pictures, ideas, videos, how to's, Etc.

Re: Section dedicated to aquascaping

The reality is that creating sections is mostly useless when everyone uses the portal and this is why I've tried to move away from the portal. It doesn't really matter what section something goes in if we are all accessing it from a single point of entry anyways.

That being said, when a need arises for a forum. It will be created. If lots of threads develop about hardscape and continues that way for a length of time, we can certainly move all the threads into a new forum should it be necessary.

The more you split up conversation, the less it will be seen. For instance I don't spend a lot of time looking through South American threads. However in the photo of the month contest I voted for some. Because it was mixed in with something I was already looking at.

I happen to use both. Portal for quick glance and forum to continue deeper. Both have its functions.

I could be wrong but this was what I had in mind. Because I thought perhaps African cichlid lovers, salt water enthusiasts would also use this as a tool to share their builds. Thus creating threads where we all would tie into together.

But again, by the little participation in this thread I assume there will be very little interest outside of myself and perhaps a couple others.
