Does anyone local have any Alt. Compressiceps Sumbu fry/juve? I am considering adding a few/pair to the 100 gallon when I get it up again to help control population.

Live Fish Direct has several Alto's at the moment, but they are quite spendy...

I forgot I started this thread. It only took 2yrs to find 4 of these guys locally. They are doing really well and appear to be putting on some size. They are still rather shy and dart into hiding whenever I try to get a picture but eat everything I try to feed them.

Spent some time observing the Sumbu dwarves this evening. They are all over an inch now and showing a nice black trim along the dorsal fin. They are still shy but if I sit still they will come out and watch me. The largest is getting that nice long sad face of the Alto's.

As there is no color/pattern difference between m/f dwarves only size and shell occupancy are the determiners. I'm not 100% on this but hopefully this is a female claiming residency. The other 3 hang out around the rock pile.PXL_20210417_190735992.MP~2.jpgPXL_20210417_191124868~2.jpg

All get fed the same but the one that claimed the shell and one other are definitely larger than the other two.

Just a little FYI re. market value, should you ever get some fry. LFD currently has 1.25" unsexed Sumbu Dwarf's available for $35 each. I'm not sure how that works out in terms of price per pound. o_O

I saw 2 pairs for sale on aquabid (iirc) that were reasonably priced.

Still have all 4 dwarves. The largest is pushing 2.5in and hides in the rocks. Rather reclusive. Did come out to feed but I didn't have my camera handy.
Two have taken shells on the left side of the tank. One at the front and the other in the ribbed shell towards the back.PXL_20210807_014808335~2.jpgPXL_20210807_014859737.MP~2.jpgPXL_20210807_014521834~2.jpgPXL_20210807_013751131.jpg

Any of them attempted to pair off? They are so cool looking, they basically are cared for like other shell dwellers?
