    Catastrophic failure

Yep, already crossed that issue. Since we have other Convicts in the house, in a couple weeks, we should be back to our previous level.

    Catastrophic failure

It seems to be windy most of the time here on Whidbey Island. That and the massive rains we've been receiving has loosened the soil to the point of causing trees to be more subject to blowover.

    Catastrophic failure

On the evening of 20 Jan 2018, at approx. 8:30 p.m. a tree fell in our backyard. It was a huge tree, more than 36" dia., this tree took out our outbuilding where a 75 gallon tank stocked with Convict cichlids, as well as several other cichlid species. Crushed our camper, smashed the carport on...

    New Cichlid tank setup

The leak has stopped after the water leaked down to about 3/4 full. I've made a brace to squeeze the corner a bit to attempt controlling the leak until I get a place cleared for a 55G. Not sure of brand/make/age. The glass is 1/2" thick, it has no center brace like the new 75 Gallon tanks...

    Shrimp Tank Additives

Vicki; Wow, you're trying so hard. We do not live in Seattle, but over on Whidbey Island. Our tap water is 7.8-8.2 PH, and super hard(did know the numbers but suffice to say it's practically liquid rocks). I've got a TDS meter and took readings but don't remember off hand what it was. All...

    New Cichlid tank setup

Update. This tank has sprung a leak!!!!!! Looks like a corner seal has given up its function and seeping water at a slow rate. I'm going to install some bracing to see if I can stop it until I come up with a replacement tank for the inhabitants. Dennis

African with large "tumor" thing on his nose

One of our Zebras has this 1/4" dia. nodule on his nose. It probably stands a goof 1/4" proud of the surrounding flesh. It's kinda whitish with reddish appearance to it. It's been slowly growing for the last 2 months at least. No clamped fins, or anything else that would seem out of normal...

    injured African

Found one of our Africans that had somehow gotten himself stuck in a covered bridge decoration. Had to cut the bridge away from him, he was so entangled. Looks to have at least 3 abrasions where he's rubbed scales off trying to free himself. Any recommendations on how to give him the best...

    New babies!!!!!!

After keeping N. Brichardi for the past several years and not having any luck what so ever at spawning them, we have babies. And apparently multiple generations as there are at least 2 different sizes of fry. Also, discovered a single baby green anaeus Cory catfish in a 33L tank in the...

Purchased and setup yet another tank.........

After striping our Sciaenochromis fryeri lastnight and getting about 50 new fry and not having a good place to put them for grow-out, I resorted to buying a new tank at the local thrift store. Anyone needing some junior S. Fryeri soon? Dennis & Heather

    After Christmas shopping spree.

Decided to take an after Christmas visit to some of the closer LFS's this evening. Found a couple nice looking Angels, listed as "Zebra Red Fin Angels" but after looking them up, just a nice looking regular Angels. So wish all the stores labeled their stock with the scientific name and not...

    Corydoras sterbai poisoning.

Yeah, I remember that was his method. But from immediate "lessons learned," seems the cories can regenerate the toxin in about 12 hours, so the process needs to be done again from the get-go. Dennis

    Corydoras sterbai poisoning.

Hi all. Just got home from the GPAS monthly meeting with our auction winnings Monday evening and discovered the bag of 4 cories was very cloudy looking, with 2 of the big guy's not looking good at all. We rapidly moved them to fresh water, but 2 of them didn't make it. They were repackaged...
