Catastrophic failure

On the evening of 20 Jan 2018, at approx. 8:30 p.m. a tree fell in our backyard. It was a huge tree, more than 36" dia., this tree took out our outbuilding where a 75 gallon tank stocked with Convict cichlids, as well as several other cichlid species. Crushed our camper, smashed the carport on the house, and came to rest about 10' above our new motorcycle which was parked on the driveway just in front of the carport. When the tree fell, it took out the electrical power to the house for 3 days, which caused the 20+ tanks in the house to fall to room temp for a while, until the tree was removed by the tree service. I was able to get the generator up after a couple days to keep the tanks warm and water flowing. Overall, the fish loss was fairly minimal, except for the 75G inhabitants. Lost a few of the more fragile species, which will be replaced in the future. Saved the motorcycle though.

EGAD!!! Glad to hear things worked out! You sound SOOOOOO calm about it! I can't remember the weather on tthat day.....was it that windy?

It seems to be windy most of the time here on Whidbey Island. That and the massive rains we've been receiving has loosened the soil to the point of causing trees to be more subject to blowover.

Sorry to hear about that. Your homeowner's insurance should cover physical losses, like your tank, but they generally don't cover 'pets.' like your fishes. Good luck.

Yep, already crossed that issue. Since we have other Convicts in the house, in a couple weeks, we should be back to our previous level.
