What tank projects/goals for this year?

A new year is upon us and many have goals of things they would like to accomplish.... So how about you, what fish related projects are you working on this year?

I will start with this, I have a huge piece of Mopani wood that I need to get to stop releasing tannins so I can get it into my 210g. I am looking to change the tank layout a bit. I may also be looking to change the stock a little. Love having Porkchop the pearsei in there but am officially tired of silver dollars. Anyone know who would want seven adult red hooks? LOL

So let us know your plans this year....

I'll be putting together a 45g tall in the next couple months. I have the glass, filter, CO2, Lighting. Still need sand and to finish processing my soil. I also have a 35g I might rig up as a grow out tank for plants, but it would be unheated in the garage so I'm not sure how well that would work. Outside of that it will be a year of many unknowns so I'll be keeping things simple. :)

Lighting projects on my 60 gallon, and convincing my wife to let me get more tanks.. haha :)

I'm almost done with my small fish room/office redesign. So my next project is to do an aquarium dining room. Planning two 40gals, one Malawi and the other probably a gourami biotope.

Re: What tank projects/goals for this year?

I want to get a pressurized CO2 setup on the 20g. But it's all so pricey!
And maybe get a proper stand for the 55g, not cinderblocks and 2x4s.

Not even going to try and be ambitious ... just get a few tanks out of storage. Not even all of them, just a few.

I just upgraded my lights on my 210g. Not trying to raise any plants just wanted fish to 'pop' more. I went with the Current Satellite + which I found on Black Friday sales for a great price. The remote control and effects are gimmicky and I dont even use them but the full spectrum lighting does make the fish look great! As to more tanks I too have to answer to a wife....

Re: What tank projects/goals for this year?

my goals for the new year in relation to my aquariums are: To remove U. gibba from my planted tanks. Reduce the number of species I grow to a handful, and spend more time pruning instead of letting the tanks go feral like I normally do. If I'm feeling overly ambitious I will pull the geophagus eggs or their predator from a tank and see if I can get some surviving fry out of them.

Re: What tank projects/goals for this year?

Well my wife and I were talking about some fish stock I need to move around and now I have to deal with the fact that my bichir creep her out and she does not want me to put any in my 210g in the living room. She could have mentioned that months ago when I got the weeksii, a wild caught that I ordered and paid shipping on to boot, so NOT cheap.  :wall:

So my upcoming plans will include selling off of an expensive bichir since I wont be able to keep him in a 72G bowfront too much longer. Got to love the spouse who has opinions on something she has no participation in.  :lmfao:

:lmfao:  I guess thats a good goal to scale it back to a breeding project and not a new store project.

My goal is to build a 480g plywood tank in my garage....The hard part is getting my wife to approve of such a task.

well first I have to pay attention to my dog cause his heavy butt decided tto sit on my chest but then as soon as we get into our new house( finally yay!) I have a 125 to outfit and set up, a 55 to FINALLY fully stock, a 30 to stock a 15 to completely do Ooooo puffers! And the 20 gets to stay quarientine. Hopeing I can make it so a 30-40 will fit UNder the 125 and do a buttload school of like pheonix rasboratas and corries or something. Plus scoping out the new fish stores near the new place. Beyond that....I have maybe plans but no tanks. Hubby said I gotta stock what I own first LOL and somewhere in there I really want to get the blue dwarf sunfish from NC and breed them.

Re: What tank projects/goals for this year?

Too many I think:

1. upgrade our pond...John wants a waterfall

2. Nano tank or small tank (whatever is the right term)...got the tank and started this project...pictures will come soon. It's a 9G tank

3. Upgrade a couple of my 20G's to 29G tanks with new stands...have the tanks...stands just came in so just need to make the changes when time

4. Research aquaponics...new garden project. Already found out I can't do the raise the fish for food thing so will only be able to try it for the veggie side of things...will probably use feeder goldfish for this project not sure yet...might get scratched

5. Add a new CARES species or two. Love my CARES species and lost a few in the garage downsizing.

6. Raise up some fry again (waiting for the garage temps to warm up a bit) instead of just letting moms spit in tanks. Will do the fry tanks seasonally in the garage as weather permits. Then break down in the winter months.

7. We have a very nice 50G Juwel tank that needs a stand...so get the stand done at some point then find the space inside for the tank...maybe we'll need a stack for this one and another one.

Think that's it...well...maybe :)

Nothing special, pretty much upgrade my 29g to a 55g, then grow some nice algae on my rocks ^_^

Re: What tank projects/goals for this year?

I'm still working on setting up my mom's tank.
I'm just a bit away from finishing the background, then I will install that, let it cure and get it over to her place for cycling.
She is set on Yellow Labs so I will be rehoming all my Labs to her tank,
I will then be  moving around a species, possibly my Estherea,to hopefully stock some Ps. Saulosi. I'm not sure if I do that,or just go Species only and leave my zebras in their current tank, but either way Saulosi are in my future.
I'm still researching plans, and materials for my 1st DIY tank as well. Since it will be an 8ft tank I need to clear out the space I plan on using as a small fish  room(wife approved of course).
That room will also be the space I keep my new stand which I'm planning as a breeder set up with a 3 tier stack of 40g breeders,2 tanks on each tier.
My goal there is to breed,a few common mbuna species, and 1 or 2 rare ones as well, some  that will decimate all the crappy stock we see in our big chain stores, and get people on board with housing quality africans in our area.
I get so tired of seeing hybrid/poor stock in the stores,I would like to do something to buck a long standing trend.
I will then move my  breeding operation,in the grandest of plans...
I aim to open my  own aquarium store, providing many different kinds of fish, but specializing in African Cichlids,Large American Cichlids, and Catfish varieties,as well as a providing surplus of quality foods, and fish keeping accessories, including handcrafted tank stands, and 3D aquarium backgrounds.
This is something further down the road for me,I still have a lot of hurdles to jump, but I have gone beyond the "dreaming" stage, searching for the perfect locale, and sourcing wholesale items, and acquiring licenses. the south puget sound really could use a place like this, and I have full support from my family, and business partners. All this while raising  a 2 year old, working as a chef, and teaching karate. Who needs plans? I'm too busy doing!! Go Seahawks!!! :woot:
