Just another experiment taking advantage of another creature.
Angel/Convict Cross that glows.

i like feeding glo fish to my sculpin with a black light on..lol but these are awesome looking
,
say what you like but at least these fish are not tattooed and died..they are BORN that way...witch they stumbled on to while trying to figure out what genetics do what at the cell stage ..genetic mapping. Science..we cant really live with out it. and if the fish are healthy and normal than i dont see the down side..i would totally devote and entire tank to a batch of those.

Edit: i dont think those are angle/convicts....they look like angels and uh...not sure that is a possible hybrid?

just looked it up...so no, but there are glow in the dark cons as well.

Natural or not... Man made or not.. Natural birth.. They are born that way only cause of some un-natural help from some Taiwanese scientists.

Studying genetics and genetic mapping has great uses in providing cures for all sorts of things that plague ppl and anything else but that is besides the point..

The whole point with having a glowing fish was to help in detecting pollution in some way..
The rice fish and Zebra Danios were made to glow using genetic information from a jelly fish.. So have they really helped detection of polluted waters.. I think not.. What they have done is polluted our hobby and the minds of ppl and children. So now instead of a nice fancy guppy or Danio They are running to the "cute" Glofish ©. Thats Right Copyrighted. These fish are only a relative of the zebra danio and yet somehow threw some loop they figure they can own this living creature..

And here we are again with ANOTHER glowing fish.. But what is the story with them.. To help pollution once again? Or another Copyrighted fish idea to bring in nothing but money...

As far as i know the Glowfish hasnt even been put to use for pollution detection Unless you are trying to detected how polluted the tap water of every aquarium owner across the country is..

lol...uhh all fish are sold to make money.....what is wrong with making a fish someone will want even if it is 'cute' hell blood parrots are more effed up than these fish and yet they are sold in the 100s....so really whats the difference, as long as the fish is healthy and can live a normal life does it really mater?
They may bring more people in to this hobby we all love so much...is that really a bad thing?.

i know allot of kids who are were not interested in fish at all, until they see glo fish .....it draws people to the hobby at a young age or new people who did not like 'fancy guppies' or any other fish for sale on the market.

Its like there isnt enough variety in the world as it is... Yes it physically isnt in any harm once it is born but it is now OWNED by this company and profited off of.. Not only that its another impure species in our hobby.. I dont disagree with you i hate the dying and tattooing of fish and dont like the ideas of hybrids as well..

If you think about it most hybrids and oddballs come from overseas fish farms cause they know they will be bought as the new best thing thus supporting their actions.

Its those ppl that are drawn to the hobby in my opinion that are those ones that shouldnt be in the hobby.. Those are those few that end up getting to curious and try crossing to species just because hes now board with the fish he has..

Any genetic modification should be left to the streams and lakes they happen in.. If you believe in evolution you should know that one major factor is hybridization within species that results in different species.. On top of random mutations and genetic drift from natural pressure..

And you might say that breeding a fish to make it a long fin or to better barring or better colored is doing the same thing and.. Im sorry its not.. All that is doing is bringing out a recessive traits so you can now see it in its offspring.. Its all genetic information that was available to the parents but not visable..


Last i checked there was no fish that ever possessed green fluorescent protein... Untill now atleast...


Even tho there were a few ideas that i did find quite neat...


Can you imagine GloGurt.... Glow in the dark yogurt now with more Protien...

And somewhere was talking about orchids with GFP... No longer would you need to buy solar panel lights...

Im sorry but Glowing fish arent needed in the hobby and could you imagine what that do if that gene leaked into a population of fish... The population could vary well get wiped out..

Fish dont glow for a reason.. Also why you dont see many fish with bright white on the top of it...


Edit!.. Actually I have to retract that statement.. Fish dont glow for NO reason.. There is a fish that glows and it evolved to be able to glow for a reason.. Which is a saltwater fish.. The angler fish.

They have been created..they are healthy fish, people like them, so they will be sold. Period end of story, if you like it or not.
Same goes for hybrids there is NOTHING wrong with this in my opinion..and honestly that is what it gets down to, peoples opinions, if there is a market for it it will be sold....

..chickens? cows? these are all OWNED by the farmers/ranchers and profited off of.
You OWN your pets....

This is just my opinion, and i clearly see yours but just because you see something as not right does not mean everyone sees it that way.
It comes down to the well being of the animal, if it is healthy happy and treated well i see nothing wrong with it.

No i do not own my pets in the sense i am talking about.. I figured anyone would understand what i meant.. The Glo fish is a trademarked and owned.. Technically YOU could be sued for any Glo fish fry you raise and try to sell if you so try... Yes you can own almost any animal that you can import and legally or even illegally keep on your property.. But you wont have to even think about lawsuits for selling a chick or calf.. ect..

lol You want to talk about opinions.. Lets look at all the world catastrophes and horrible things that have happened cause of one persons great Opinion or idea... Species of fish have been erased from existance cause of one persons opinions/ideas/beliefs..

So if we could clone lets say a dinosaur and bring it back well just because we can and maybe we can make a buck and build a zoo just because there is a market and you would make money.. What the hell..

Mind you i think it would be cool but really... That sound like a great idea..LOL..

Its called being smart and thinking about consequences and being aware of what goes on around you.. Its people that think and act like you that things dont happen.. Their really is power in numbers its just america is to fat, dumb or too lazy to take action on anything. We are Blinded by media and everything else...

You have no clue how much garbage goes on that gets covered up. And shot down as being false as the monopoly of a media system we have has the goverments and big business money in their pockets..

Anyways my point being... Weather they are hurt or liked thats not the point its the fact of what could happen and that its just not right.. Just cause theres a market dosent mean it should be sold..

I know ppl think differently hence why their is a market.. Its more than the happiness of the animal i dont care how many cows you feed your T-rex

As with all things, the fact that we can doesn't necessarily mean that we should.

Wonder what the reaction would be if you saw a human baby with this gene modification. :shock:

My personal belief is that scientific research is one thing, and commercial gain another. One has value for humanity and our planet, the other, not so much. Just my opinion, and I'm not asking anyone else to agree - or fighting with them about their personal opinions either.

So if you think that if a baby was made to glow it would be perfectly ok if it was happy?
Gene mapping is great and has great for mankind and the world but is not meant as a source of profiteering. I feal the same way if im coming off rough im just enjoying a educated discussion.
