Of the eggs? The camera makes my water look cloudy, oh well. Goldies are certainly fun and their tank is the first one I've done where I like the artificial decor. Looks so tacky to me but it's doesn't look too bad in their tank.

Thanks for the comment!

ohhh ok gotcha **wink wink

Someone told me to think of them as manatees so that's what I've been doing. Never liked the Ranchus but as mini manatee he's gosh darn cute!

Nice! :spoton:

I used to keep goldfish years ago. They are so calm compared to many of the cichlid tanks Ive had going. Makes me want to set another tank up. The fish are looking good keep up the good work.

Had a small scare with Mr. Rancu. He developed swim bladder disorder. The water is clean and they primarily eat an herbivorous diet so I don't believe there was lacking in those two areas. My guess is he had a bowel upset from the kale. I had stomach upset the first time I ate it and he ate the most form everyone else. Certainly took a little while for my body to adjust to it. I fasted him for a couple days and he had returned to normal. So with him as well as couple other goldies having such deep abdomens I think I'm just going to eliminate kale from their diet. I'm also going to start soaking the pellets for them.

But once again he has made a full recovery from what I can tell. Certainly had me on edge though...

glad to hear he pulled thru. i went to the pet store the other day and my gf said i love the wierd goldfish and i said if you like that then you should see the cute little guy this girl online has(you).i said if i get one its gotta be a ranchu because its short stumpy body reminds me of me

If you do get one make sure you get two, they're very social fish. I always opt for the goldies without huge abdomens when I can. You run into way less health problems.

ive always wondered if they need friends because they are not stupid they recognize the holy feeder so why wouldnt they want friends and if i get them it will be in a pond in my room im getting ready to switch from glass to 150+ gallon ponds

My guys will eat yours.
your fish are not big enough maybe the redhooks but they dont seem mean.
No not the fish. Ratlova and I have Emoticon issues. They all stem from :spoton: , which I use way too often. Then I get :spoton: x 10 in return..... so I have stopped using the little guys altogether. Not really, but I will cut down on the use of Mr thumbs up. :D

Back on the subject of goldfish. Every time my wife and I are at the fish store she always comments on the colors and shapes of the fancy type goldfish. She really likes them. I think I could sneak another tank in the house if I did goldfish. LOL

You know... a 30gal would support two fancys :spoton: :ibox: :nanana: :nutkick:

Word for the wise, you should not keep plecos with goldies. Goldies have the most delicious slime coat on them and the plecos will latch themselves onto their sides. I always recommend getting the fancys labeled "fantails". They don't have such huge abdomens like the Ryukins. To put it simply the less fancy they are the less problems you will have. They're such a fun fish to have those, they know who feeds them, they don't really fight, they're just fun.

I haven't seen a lot of stores selling true fantails though... most are just ryukins without the big hump, but still have the deep body. I've always figured fantail bodies should fall somewhere between a wakin and a ryukin.

As much as I like them though, it's definitely stressful to watch a gf with SBD/constipation problems trying to swim around. I'm always paranoid and watching them closely to make sure they're not struggling to swim to the bottom or checking the scales for any signs of pineconing. Luckily, so far the batch I have now are doing well.

Sorry to hear about your meanie ram. I'd volunteer to take him off your hands and try putting him in my 75g community tank, but one of my pearl gouramis has also been a bit of a jerk lately. Getting a little too territorial... there should be like a reform/rehab for overly aggressive fish lol.

By the way, the MTS i got from you some time ago, I rarely ever see in my 75g. I put a few in my 10g and 2.5g and those I see more often, but the ones in the big tank either didn't survive or just hide really well. Of course, I don't really look in my tank when the lights are out, so they probably just come out when it's dark.
