tore down my 55 gallon

so i just tore down my 55 gal and putting up a 75 gallon i just got lol i was up till midnight last night making a new stand for it because my old stand wasnt wide enough so i made a basic ones out of 2x4s and just tore myold stand apart and used the pieces to cover it haha it looks like a fat man in a skinny shirt but for a quick basic built turned out pretty jazy ill have to post pics anyway during the deconstruction of the 55 gal i will never use sand again! not only dide it scratch the tank it stank sooo bad and i cleaned it regularly and everything... so now im back to a undergravel system with a back pack filter and my eheim canister filter the fish loved the move tho but ill post pics here soon

Did the package on the sand say aquarium safe? If it was me I wouldn't skimp on my aquarium sand. Silica sand From home depo isn't as refined as aquarium sand you would buy at your LFS and tends to have sharper edges. I have heard from a couple friends that used Home Depo sand that there is a stink from it after a while. In my tank i use Aragonite, its really expensive in comparison but I have never had any issues with it and in the long run you will be happier. As far as sand goes, Home depo silica sand is like buying a cheap box spring bed for your fish and Aragonite is like buying a pillow top. :lol!:

What type of set up are you going for? Heavily planted, lots of wood? I'm looking forward to seeing your pics :!:

I use sand from the creek, throughly rinsed, boiled and bleached, then rinsed again. It looks natural, is usually very well rounded and fine, since its from running water, and I can pick any color I want as long as it's gray! (But in seriousness, some have darker or lighter shades.)

yea everyone said silica sand was good for your fish tank compared to like play sand and what not and there is alot of people on here i guess that used it but yea i know that sand aroganite is suuper expensive but my new tank came with some nice gravel so thats what im gonna run for now but tank wise its juyst plain right now i have a couple cheap decorations a couple fake plants 2 rocks for now making a little cave and some horn root or what ever it may be called i really want to do a nice fancy like river rock design but i just need to get some ideas first but soon i will have pics up

go under show n tell and find my thread there i listed what i have and on like page 2 there is pics thats what was in my old tank but im getting rid of fish as we speak lol
