Survived last nights power outage

All I have to say is, "thank God I was able to get a hold of a generator."

Power went out here in Puyallup South Hill around 8 last night. Checked on my tanks at 7a.m. this morning and the temps were all around 66-68. And my 135 w/my big fish had all of the fish at the top gasping for air. So I started making calls to find a generator, all going unsuccessful until my last ditch effort. I called my ex-wife. :affraid: (Hey desperate times call for desperate measures) Now I am glad I did. :punk: They had one and her husband delivered it around 9 and it was all up and running within an hour.   I bet if my fish could talk, they would say,"it's about freakin time."

But I will say that watching the light show outside was very impressive. After our power went out, my son and I went outside where we heard explosion after explosion lighting up the sky on each one. Not sure how many blew, but we saw and heard at least 8. My son even got some of the light show on video.

Everything is back up and on now, so hopefully this is the last outage until I get my own generator.

Hope everything went well for everyone else that lost power.

Some of the battery operated air pumps are a good investment....
Glad everyone made it ok!!!!

I will definitely be investing in a few of them. Now they just have to design a heater w/battery backup.

Our power only went out for a short time, but back in '06 I think it was, it was out for two days. During that time, the temps in my tanks including my 10 gallon fry tanks got down into the mid 50s. The fish were very inactive and just stayed still on the bottom of their tanks, but after it was all over, I only lost two fry -- this was with 11 tanks of mbuna!

We do have a generator now! It was nice of your ex to let you use theirs. :)

Did anyone feel that earthquake this morning a little before 8am? I was right near two of my tanks and there was a big jolt and a little bit of sloshing of water. With the initial jolt, the fish reacted like someone had knocked on the glass of the tank.

And a canister filter maybe. Add the costs and a generator is a better investment. Luckily you have one.

you know u can get a battery pack back up for a computer and it will work if u use it for 5 min turn it off and then back on later... not as great as a generator but it works...

Ya we are suppose to get another one. This one is coming off the ocean. Sounds like the South is suppose to get hit the most. I heard that this one is moving slow and the winds may stick around for a couple days.

So ya, I already asked if I can hold onto it.

that big storm in '06 took out my power for a week. Had my tank at work and they did not make it. Was blocked in my neighborhood for 3 days due to downed trees so I could not even get to it.

I hear rumor of potential snow down to 500' this weekend or early next week.

A kerosene heater would take care of the cold issue. If you cant heat the tanks you heat the room. I run a space heater in my fish room when it gets cold not individual tank heaters.
So any non electric heater yall could get to be near your tanks would help immensely.

I'm so glad I really don't have to deal with the cold that yall do! ;)

Yeah our weather is jacked up fern lol. But heck we don't have hurricanes ha. Anyway. I was good through it all. I was taking PAC ave home from tacoma general and it was in it's own right "neat" to see patches of light and then darkness just going down the street. Cops were out real
Heavy too rolling in two car pairs. But all in all I wasn't affected. I did see a huge blue flash out by the hospital and heard a couple good explosions while on smoke break.
