Shrimp tank question

I am setting up the 40 gal tank i got from Spyral as a planted tank with some cherry red shrimp. I'm going to add some Bristlenose plecos, and I was wondering if Bettas are safe with shrimp, or will they eat the babies?

My Betta would eat them. I tried some guppies as tankmates, that I thought were quite large and my betta took them down and ate. Never trust a betta with small fish or shrimp.

My female betta follows my cherry shrimp around, but has never eaten them. I think it's different for different people. You'll just have to try and see what happens. My tank is heavily planted. That could be why she leaves them alone.

darn, what about guppies? i want some sort of fish in the tank besides the bristlenose, and though my Cichlids would love it, the idea is to keep the shrimp...

I have 2 dwarf gouramis in my 10 with my shrimp with a bunch of java moss and plants as well as clover and my gouramis never bother my shrimp. The gouramis chase my tetras a bit but never nip them.

First you have to add the shrimp by themselves and let them get established, once they start breeding you can try to add other fish. bettas work sometimes, guppies work sometimes. the fish I've always been able to keep with them are endlers, chilli rasbora, cardinal tetra, you want fish that have a little mouth and you have to wait for them to start breeding.

Any fish that can will eat baby shrimp they are a natural food source.... just think brine shrimp..

Yep different for everyone. My betta is male and a very aggressive feeder. Actually shocked me he ate the guppies, they did seem big enough. Then again I have a small tank with out a lot of plants so no where for any thing to hide. With a larger tank and heavy plantings you have a much better chance to keep things together.

Why such a big tank for shrimp?

It was free, I wanted a planted tank, and shrimp are fun to feed to my cichlids!
