Has anyone used river rock for their tank display? I'm looking to do a custom 55 gallon and would like some ideas.

Yes I use river rock, mountain rocks etc.. all the rock we buy came from the earth too. Just be careful what types of rock you use, most are good to go. but limestone wil raise PH and some contain minerals that may be harmful.

Thank you, I was looking at going up to the skagit and finding some pebble type for the base layer and then a few bigger rocks to make caves and stackable shelving for the tank. I would clean them obviously .

I have river Rock in all of my tanks.... Just boil it for a while and then I add it in. Agates are my favorites

I have river rock in a couple of tanks. I soak mine in hot water and scrub with a brush, soak and rinse until clean. (old pics)

I like other types of rock that aren't as smooth and rounded as well. They are easier to stack without worrying about them falling.
