When I think of what I would do different in the fish room, I come up a few ideas. Since two of my tanks are custom (the 65B) they feature a thicker glass and have no center divider so everything about them is a breeze. I think if I were to redo it all I would like to order custom 4 foot tanks with no divider and have them 24" wide and 24" tall. This would make it easy to maintain. I would have to have made some custom racking but I do enjoy wood-working so no big deal. Was just one of those moments that I wish I would have done a few things differently.

YouTube video, so we can see them in action is needed now
Im getting close… working on my divider wall on the left side. Got the rolling rack all cleaned up and spun around. One I put a panel on the back it will feel more “finished”.

I generally had cut the one side out on fishroom pics because it was a bit messy. Decided to flip my storage rack to make a “wall”. But I wanted it to be a bit less garage like so of all things I covered the back with a shower curtain off Amazon. Not what I want as the ‘final’ look but content with the look at the moment.

A couple new things, the lower tanks are a pain to sit and watch so I added a floor pillowIMG_20230226_095229210.jpg

Next to my utility sink I added this
silicone toothbrush holder to hold feeding tongs and cleaning brushesIMG_20230226_095311954.jpg

I like the floor pillow, but offer another idea. I present, "the toddler chair":

In the garage environment, I would be tempted to use a rolling shop stool with a pneumatic or hydraulic adjustment. I can't use wheeled implements to sit on in my house as a grain or two of sand on the wheels does a number on the floor.

I love the toothbrush holder.

I've been thinking about the same issue- how to get comfy in the fish room and enjoy it (rather than just work in it)- and last week I came up with this solution. The only problem is, this might be a bit too comfortable, as late last night I fell asleep sitting there with a cat on my lap and a glass of cognac in my hand. o_O

Started in on my "downsize" of the fish room. I am selling off the Fluval 32.5 tank and replacing it with a standard 40B. Main reason is to make this an empty quarantine/hospital tank that I can fill and use as needed.

I went with a Marineland from Petsmart which was on sale at 50% off for $64.99 and I used a $10 off coupon.
IMG_20250531_144040201_HDR.jpgAfter purchasing the tank I got an additional coupon on the receipt for $10 off. I bought a Top Fin "Universal" glass lid at $34.99and used the $10 off coupon on it.

A bit weird of a fit but its the only thing that was ready to go and local otherwise it was $80 online for a genuine Marineland top.

I need to get a 3/4" piece of plywood for the base. Will need to cut to size, possibly edge band it and then paint it.

Idea was to use my Aquaclear 70 on it as the filter and I have an extra heater already. I really would like to do an Aquaclear 110 but that means spending some money but in the long run might be the best thing since it would match the other 6 I already use and I would have consistent parts for all. This tank will be used soon since I will be needing a quarantine tank for adding fish to the 300. Dont know what Im going to do yet but changes are coming.

Got the required sheet of plywood that will go under the tank and cut it down to size. Will do some edge banding on it and paint it black.

I could paint it as is and install but it really does look better with the edge finished. If I want to a quick job, I could just do the front.

Got the sheet of plywood edge banded, sanded and a coat of paint on one side and edges. IMG_1853.jpeg
Goal is to have it all painted and ready to use by end of weekend

Flipped board over this morning and painted other side. It will need a second coat but should dry pretty quick with the warm weather. Getting a bit excited for this change. I plan on using the tank very soon as a quarantine tank for something new in the 300. Still dont know what… but it will be set up and ready soon.

Got a third coat on the support board this morning and let it dry outside all day. Getting close to tank swap time.

Trying to plan the tank swap for this weekend. I need to clean a bit of the decor out of the Fluval and then put that and the puffer into the 46 Bowfront. After that its time to take the fluval down, clean it up well and put it up for sale. Then the 40B goes in place. I will likely use it as a hospital right away. My one goldie has been bad for a while and I should see if I can do something with it. Really thinking its swim bladder related with how it stays on the bottom all the time.

Got the top fitted with the Aquaclear 110 today. What a pain with he "Universal" TopFin glass top! The plastic is so thick that it was difficult to cut and score to snap off. The idea is great with the thought that it fits everything with very little effort to install. Real world however, its not that easy.
