Oh No! A new Aquaclear...

Ordered new style U-tubes and when installed did seem as if it took up water faster than the old style. Im not sure if the design helps with anti-siphon but seems to be faster when the siphon was lost.

Purchased a new style lid also.

So here is the deal, while new style U-tube works perfectly fine with old filter, the old lid would not. Old lid would hit the little lever to adjust flow on top of U-tube. You need the new lid or grind down the lever to use the new U-tube.

I emailed Kens about the cracked lid and sent a picture as they requested, waiting to hear back about what they will do. They had put bubble wrap around the lid and it was packed well, it obviously was already broken when they received it and then shipped out.

Having modified one of the intake u-tubes and removing the majority of the tab wasnt too difficult and I will likely try another one or two. I do believe the new intakes seem to prime much quicker with a full tank if you were to lose your siphon. Plus the job I did looked okay, not like it was even cut, so I feel confident to try another.

As to a new filter... I would like to get one new filter so I can retire one out as a back up filter. A while back, before the new series, I accidently knocked a filter off the work table as I was cleaning the filter and broke the case along with motor and I had to go buy a new filter. I dont want that to happen again, that Im without a backup, so I do have plans for one but just not needed since I have two filters running on empty tanks right now that I could pull if needed.

Well here's a deal. Was looking at latest Petsmart email and saw coupon and tried it, along with another coupon on their website... usually they never let you double couple, anyways a new Ac110 for $69.05!

This now lets me have a backup filter!

New filter came in today and I installed it and then cleaned up the old one as a spare. I have a ton of extra parts I need to get rid of now.
