Non-Kinking Water Changing Hose?

Gotta find more. The one I have is like 50ft, but still too short for my needs. I'm still reluctant with buying just any hose, because the ones I've had in the past have all kinked on me, and becomes quite frustrating doing water changes that way.

There is one hose that I like (it's my 50ft one) that kinda has a rubbery feel to it, REALLY flexible, and doesn't kink, unlike the ones that have almost a plastic-y feel to it and kinks at the slightest bend... if that makes any sense...

I'm trying to find the same type of hose that I can add to this one, or just buy one super long one... as long as it doesn't kink, and is super flexible.

Anywho, any info would totally help :)

50 FOOT ISNT ENOUGH!?! :D

In my 1st home I had a 50 footer. Used quick connects connected to my washer's hot/cold lines. Just snapped the hose into the Y and strung the hose through the house. Those where the days...

The hose I used was really good about not kinking. It was a couple dollars more than the green garden hoses. It was made out of rubber. I believe it was sold as a non kink hose made by Goodyear found at Home Depot. Not sure of the lengths these are sold, at the lest you could put a couple together. I cut the length I needed then pushed the gravel sucker on then used a zip tie to keep it on. It worked great. The zip tie held well. The gravel sucker never slipped off. I think I still have about 10' left just in case I need a high flow siphon for the 140 which now has an auto water changer installed.

Well, I do water changes in my tanks in the garage, and there isn't a sink there, because the garage is an entirely different "building" that's not connected to the house, so I basically have to run the hose through the bathroom window, to refill them. lol... I'd rather run them through the doors, because taking off the screens on the windows in the bathroom AND the windows in the garage, are so tedious =P

The rubber hose from Goodyear would work great for draining and filling. That's what I used mine for. Don't think it ever kinked on me unless I kinked it myself to stop siphon.

..........Now I want THIS!!! OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!

https://www.xhose.com/?s_kwcid=TC|6289|expanding%20hose||S|e|19003774699&gclid=CO2uttOOibUCFemiPAodNGUA2Q

(note: there's a video that automatically plays... watch it in full screen to really see it, because the video player on the site is so small)

... on another note, it does seem a bit sketchy, like not durable... but who knows? I'm currently looking for reviews on it. And $50 for 75ft? Not bad. Not. Bad.

(EDIT)

Lots of lame reviews. So...scratch that.

Yeah, I think that's it. I was in the same position as you with the kinking. Also using a hose like this gives you the option to put in a ball valve on the working end so your not running back and forth to the faucet turning on and off the water. I had a bad experience with those clear hoses found at the LFS. I tried stopping the water at the tank end and the hose split, water everywhere...

My neighbor uses one for outside watering. He likes it.

hmmmmmmmmmm..........

in theory it's cool... man... last thing I need, is for that hose to break while I'm doing a water change, and start leaking water through the hose, and into my house. LOL.

The Goodyear hose would never split. It was kind of heavy though...

Hmmmmmm...... That's very true. Mr Goodyear would be rather bulky at 100'. Even at 50' it was a small chore to lay out. But what I was working with before that was much worse with the kinking, and the splitting. I used the largest diameter garden hose I could find. It makes for a quicker drain.

Maybe someone else may chime in with other ideas :)

So here's a thought. Don't lug it around...get a garden hose thing that normal people wrap their hose around. When I say normal, I mean it's an outside thing. Yours I'm sure will be apart of your living room dećor..;0)

This is a non-kink hose that's lighter in weight.  I've never used it and can't recommend it, but you can research it a little as a possibility.  http://www.theperfectgardenhose.com/index.html

It doesn't say anything about being safe to drink from.  I used to use an RV hose because people were saying it wasn't safe to use a regular garden hose to fill the fish tanks due to the chemicals or something used in the materials.

I use every last inch of my 50 ft. Python!

Thanks Betty! I was thinking that the rubbery hose that I have is a python hose... does yours ever kink at all? Or does it have that rubbery feel to it?

My Python never kinks. I guess it could be described as rubbery feeling. It kind of sticks to itself. It's clear. I absolutely hate coiling it up because of that way it clings if you try to slide it across itself. But it sure beats carrying buckets or storing a big RV or garden hose. They sell extensions for the Python's.

My Python hose also is very flexible. There are different types of tubing that they sell in the hardware stores but most of those are pretty thin walled and kink easily. The stuff Python uses is a much better tubing and seems the only comparable stuff Ive found is the stuff made for aquarium filter tube replacement made by Lee's. They also make a black pond tubing that is very flexible.

I use that clear hose you can gettin at home depot in 20' lenghts. Ducttaped 2 together and run it out the front door. Haven't had it kink yet but it likes to hold the coiled shape too much for my liking. That and the new house needs more then 40' >> and a different sink adaptor. I'm back to the bucket birgade for refilling D:

I only really experience "kinking" where the hose touches the top border of the tank, while I'm siphoning out water, due to the negative pressure that's in there... it kinda just "flattens" out, and that eventually causes the kinks.... I've seen people using zip ties to prevent any further kinking issues, but that ends up becoming more of a tedious thing to deal with, because the ends of those zipties are notorious for making scratches/wounds on my hands, if you don't cut the plastic pieces properly, or round them off. :(

And yeah, the hoses that can be bought at Home Depot/Lowes tends to keep its coil, which I do not enjoy, hahaha
