Finally got everything from UPS today and yesterday. Rocks from Reef Cleaners made it this morning!!!! The aragonite and rocks are set in the tank along with other pieces of equipment. Off to get the RODI water and time to get this thing wet!!!! Two months of research and talking to fellow reefers has finally paid off!!!! Pics to follow later...

If anyone has a chunk of established live rock I could get locally to help seed the tank that would be great.

Glad to hear your getting it wet, I'll let you know how the weekend goes for getting you LR, may being babysitting my sisters kids this weekend, but may have a chance to remove some for you.

Sounds good unconv - I could swap you with a chunk I just got from Reef Cleaners and didn't use. Nice piece about 6-8" diameter.

Came home from work this morning to find I had an green algea bloom yesterday on the rocks and glass. Also have a bunch of little white organisms on the glass, heater, suction tube for skimmer. Basically look like little white wiskers. They come right off the glass with the magnetic algea scraper or using a turkey baster to blow them off. Any idea what these are and should I be worried???? Checked a couple parameteres - Ammonia 0, Nitrate 5, Salinity 1.024, Temp 78.

Thanks

Doesnt look like anything to be concerned about. Looks and sounds like the normal progression of the tank cycling and maturing. Just keep cleaning the glass off and blowing the rocks off with the powerhead or a turkey baster and let it continue cycling. Take the powerheads out periocically and clean them off. You will need to clean your skimmer more often. Do you have a sump/refugium? If you do, get yourself some macro algae. It will eat up the nutrients and help keep the algae down in the tank. I have a bunch if you need some. Do you have a cleaning crew? Snails and crabs?

I agree, normal cycling, you're well on your way.

I know the schedule you keep, so I would run your skimmer on the wet side when your off, and on the dryer side when you are on the job.

Make sure to be cleaning the filter regularly.

One more suggestion! You might want to raise your salinity just a bit. Most everyone I know, including myself will say keep your salinity at 1.026.
1.024 is not too low, but you dont want it getting any lower.

Getting it to 26 is a good idea once you have corals at this point 24 isn't. Going to hurt especially since you're cycling I only recently changed to 26 to 27. Just work on other parameter. If you end up dosing ca alk mag your salinity will rise. I would continue on the path you're on until your sure on what your keeping. Sent from my phone hope I made sense

Day six and the algea bloom is finally over!!!!! Amazing how fast it clears up - started looking better yesterday and this morning it was all gone. No more cleaning the glass several times a day..... :D

That's good news! Make sure there's still plenty left for the snails though :)

Oh, dont worry about the snails, theres plenty left on the rocks and theres more to come! Just a warning, its not totally over! You will have your boughts with hair algae and cyano and other algaes, but we all did and still do sometimes. Dont get discouraged. Its all fixable. The system will take care of itself eventually.

Couple pics from my cell phone.... Tank cleaned up real nice once the algea bloom ended. Going to add a fish or two this weekend. Tanks is four weeks old today and has ten snails in it along with a couple pieces of coral I got from Un-Conv when he set me up with some established live rock..... :D

Picked up an inexpensive black blenny last weekend for the first fish in the tank. Got a package of marine algea at LFS and he loves it.... Use a rubber band and use it to hold a small piece to a piece of rock.
