I just bought a used 210 gallon tank with built in overflows. On the overflows there is white crusty crap that I can't get off. Any idea's on how to remove it? The tank has no water in it.

My tank will smell lovely after doing that. How much water do I mix in or do I use straight vinegar. Do I need to spray it on or dip my brush in it?

I'd suggest straight vinegar. You can soak paper towels in it and drape them on the overflow so they hold the vinegar in close contact. You'll probably need to leave them there for a day and then that crap will come right off. :)

The white crap is old coraline algae from a coral tank...vinegar may take a few days to get it all off... try a whole jar of ph down (phosporic acid). super cheap at any shop and will dissolve it faster than vinegar. Vinegar good for hard water stains.. but the coraline attaches more to wall of tank and has enough minerals to nuetralize vinegar. Vinegar is cheap so a couple of juggs may do the trick too. Personally the ph down will stink less and act faster. Bad news is you have to drain the tank afterward usually no matter which one u use....

How about a razor blade? I did test it out and it seems to work pretty good. If anybody is wondering this is going to be a fresh water tank. This is why I want that crap gone.

Can the overflows be removed?

Some tanks they can and if that is the case take them out soak them in hot water with oxy clean and bam good to go.

Also you could sand them and then use Krylon Black or blue paint worked wonders on a salt tank that I got and had crusty overflows and I wanted it done quick...

I'm looking for a 210 with 2 overflows for a friend. Anyone out there know who might have one ready to sell in a couple months.

This one turned out beautiful Jantilla.
