Re: My Cichlid Tank

Very nice. Quite busy. But Im one to talk. :D Couple questions. Whats the size of the top tank? (Not asking so that I can bash you for overstocking, this isnt MFK) :)

That top tank I saw, Pearsi, B/R Fen, BB, Festae, Bleekeri, Bocourti, Syn, Melanurus, Thought I saw a couple small Carpintis, Regani, Argentea, Godmanni, Bifa. Did I miss any?

And last ?, the fish in the bottom tank, what are they? They look awesome. :)

LOL! It's ok about the overstocking comment. The injustice is not how many fishes you put in the box, but the fact they're in a glass box for life and not in a lake or river :D . As long as every fish is healthy, happy looking, get along, and very well maintained - Then I can sleep real good at night.

Good eyes!!! There's no Carpintis or Bleekeri (female Polleni). There is also a Hartwegi, juvie Breidhori. unseen Green Phantom Pleco (Know that you like fancies), 4 5"-6" clown loaches.

Bottom is a nice pair of Rotkiel Sevs

On separate note. I know these 2 are from you. They migrated down here and got bounced around with several owners and LFS. THANK YOU [/b]

Re: My Cichlid Tank

Thats awesome. I know that there are a lot of them out there. Glad to see that a pair ended up in your hands. :D I have a new male that I am trying to spawn with the mom, this male has more reds in him like the mom,so hopefully more of that will show up in the fry.

Still have about 15 left from the last spawn from my original male, before he was murdered.

Forgot to answer your questions. The tank on top is 72x24x26 (195 gal.). I had a second tank with the same dims for a couple weeks and was crazy thinking about racking it.

As for the Hogas. Not many people are aware of the crazy translucent like reds that comes off these fish. It's different than like any other species. WAFISHBOX'ERs : If you're reading this. Highly recommend getting these spawns from Madness when available. Once again, thanks for the specie.

Everything is even more peaceful now. The large syns is back in and blackbelt are buddies once again. The BB is toning it down to the game "your it!" on the syns. Re-homing the regani and the smaller melanurus real soon to a friend. Did some redecorating as well. Took some DW out and some in.

I agree! My little hoga has a lot or red in him and he is turning out to be a great community fish at this point.

Re: My Cichlid Tank

Vancouver,

Is the Festae a special type? I have looked at a couple of them (adult sized 4-6 inches) at a few of my LFS for the bright orange colored one you have, but they all appear to be yellowish. Does that mean they are female or? any info would be greatly appreciated as I just picked up 110 gallon that I am currently cycling, and I would like a bright orange one to be the center piece of my tank once it is ready.
thanks in advance

Re: My Cichlid Tank

The intense reds and orange are typical of the female festae. The males just dont have the same intense color. I just dont find them that appealing for that reason.

Re: My Cichlid Tank

The intense colors on females only occur when spawning or protecting. Here are a few females from me and a friend of mines stock: The bright orange and reds are only in certain Festae. Some locations have more of one color than the others.

Re: My Cichlid Tank

Do either of you have any forsale or where would either of you suggest purchasing a male and female to insure those intense reds / oranges?

Unfortunately, you dont know what you have in colors until they start to show them. And they grow extremely slow. My 4-5" are about 1.5 years old.

As for availability, a male female from me at 4-6" right now, $350-$400. That would guarantee bright reds/orange and true wild caught. (but I have to confer with my partner) May have available some less expensive Festae that are not WC, but colors are up in the air.

Re: My Cichlid Tank

I was truly interested until I realized that i will probably only be able to afford a fourth-generation captive bread, 2nd cousin to the fish you have :( thanks again for the info.

No worries. Hijack all you want. Love your collection and anyone is free to provide pics, experiences, or opinions. I truly have some updates as I only recently set up my rackers up. I'm going to see how this goes before expansion plans. Right now have multiple OH geos, rotkiel sevs w/fry, hogas trying, geo brokopondos, and maybe attempt a festae tank for pair up.
