Awesome line up!!! Just a curious question. With your tank being over the fireplace do you have any issues with the temp? Thanks for sharing also!! What kind of turtle is that?

Fireplace is a fake gas unit so don't have to worry about heat (did have to reinforce a little though).
The turtle is a Florida soft-shell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Softshell_Turtle). They are great for aquariums as they don't need as much basking time as hard shell turtles and they are omnivores so as long as you keep them fed the pretty much leave the fish alone.
Lastly, if you are talking about the Blue/Gold fish, that would be a Bosemani Rainbow (http://www.tropicalfishandaquariums.com/Rainbowfish/Bosemani.asp)

I know their fish selection is pretty poor at the moment but they keep adding to it (they've been open less than 6 months). They are very friendly and are more than willing to try and order anything you are interested in so I give them a little bit of a pass.

When I lived in FL, we used to have a TON of turtles on our property, we lived on a lake, I can't tell you how many snapping turtles and soft shells I killed while mowing the lawn. Suckers would come out of the lake and sit in the tall grass by the waters edge. A lot of times they would get too close and get whacked. Worst thing I ever hit was water moccasins..man I hate those things.,.but they made a mess when you ran them over with the lawn mower!

Haven't really noticed a difference but I do have a lot of filtration on the tank to begin with. It's a lot of fun to watch his antics and I can handle him (under duress) but I've heard that they can be pretty nasty.Paintguy said:
FYI to anyone thinking about getting one, I would definitely recommend it with two disclaimers:
1) No dumb fish! He has done fine with my rainbows, corry cats, plecos, loaches, ropefish, cichlids, etc (size doesn't really seam to matter) but anything not smart (gold fish, angels, guppies and some tetras) become part of the circle of life.
2) Have room for him to grow into!!! I've had mine for about 6 months and he's grown from the size of a quarter to almost as big as a CD! Apparently males can get up to 12" across and female up to 24" so don't think you'll be able to keep it in a 35gal community tank.
