So I left Friday morning for Eastern Wash for my sons baseball tourney. Got home Sunday night about 10pm. was going to purchase a bunch of weekend feeders, but they were going to run me about $60. So I thought that I could ask my neighbors daughter if she could feed them for me for $40. (she is 17) So I showed her what food, and how much goes in each tank.

So when I got home, :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: I could not believe how over fed the majority of my tanks were. IN JUST 2.5 DAYS! :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: My Hogas and their babies were lifeless just hanging in the corner of the tank. Same with my Festae. OMG :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: :affraid: 2 water changes later, and cleaning the filters, the fish all look so much happier. WOW, did I screw up.

Anyone have ideas on feeding over a 2 or 3 day period while gone? Besides spending lots of $$$$ on auto feeders. Then again, thats probably the only way.

Sticky notes on each tank, with a measuring spoon for proper amount of food foreach tank,

keep food, measured scoop and directions on or near each tank.... make it stupid proof.

Have a fellow fish keeper that you can trust do it. Or like said above be VERY VERY specific about how much and when to feed!

If it was only 2 or 3 days I wouldnt have anyone feed. I would just make sure to feed right before I left and as soon as I got back. But Im not sure if that's possible with the kind of fish you keep? Fry and whatnot!

Sorry about your issue, lol. Atleast everone survived!

I normally leave some Romain lettuce in my tanks for a long weekend. But I only have Malawi and Tangs. They love that stuff. At the worst, they may skip a day, and that never seems to be a bad thing.

Ya we did that with my son's Af tank, worked well.

Did this too. Sorta. Instead I wrote with a dry erase pen on each tank as to how much to feed. I thought I made it dummy proof, I guess I have to dummy it up even more. :violent: :violent: :violent: :violent:

I guess having a fellow fish keeper do it, may be the answer. I better figure it out, I want to go to Hawaii for a week later in the Summer.

They make "day by day" containers for people who take lots of pills, just put a days worth of food in each container in the fridge and put which day to feed that container on it with a sharpie or something.

I had my neighbor watch my tanks for about 5 days.. I put up sticky notes with a number of pellets & algae tablet per tank/ per day and all went well. My real fear was the power going out.

For 2 days? Do like Shua said and don't feed for those 2 days. No one will starve, not even fry. Feed well for the few days before you leave and you should be okay.

Was just concerned that my aggressive boys may get a little aggressive if they got too hungry.

When i go away for a few days i just do a good feeding before i leave and then don't feed while i'm gone. I had the same problem you did ONCE, then i learned my lesson..
When i was going away for my 2 weeks with the military i'd make up baggies of food with date to feed written on them in sharpie. And i'd only feed like every 2-3 days being i wasn't around to do my weekly water changes. That seemed to work out pretty well.

Too bad I live so far away or else I would have fed! Hopefully everything will return to normal. That festae tank was on beast mode!

Oh and those orange dots I showed you in that video are completely gone. I'm hoping that keeping my tank at around 84 degrees for a while will clear up my pests.

If its just 2 or 3 days i wouldnt worry about it. I just went a week myself without feeding them and have done it every year. Never had any fatalities but they usually strip all my algae off the wood and rocks. Longest I have gone was 10 days and i think that was a bit much, few of the fish looked a bit famished.

I think a week would be a little long for very small fry though.
