Info about a plant

So I saw this plant at the fish store and I really liked that it's dark green and feathery looking. He said that it is a high light plant and can be hard to grow. I don't know the name of the plant :p My light is basically meant for growing things like vegetables, I would say it's pretty bright. Anyways, just looking for some information on it.

Looks to me like cabomba (maybe caroliniana) or ambulia. They look similar, but ambulia to me is a lot more feathery fluffy where cabomba is a bit stiffer.

Definitely looks like the plant MrTom helped I'd in my tank. I found with snails in the tank is was broken and dead in about 2 weeks total. I love the look of it but depends on what you have in your tank if it will last.

Looks like Cabomba to me, like MRTom mentioned. It could be Purple Cabomba, Prolly doesn't look like it in the picture due to lighting conditions and white balancing from the camera/camera phone.

Might also be green Cabomba (Cabomba caroliniana) but I know that green Cabomba is illegal here in Washington, while purple and Red Cabomba are not illegal.

I find that the plants are undemanding, they do great in my dirted tank, but not so great in non-dirted tanks. It does like moderate lighting though. Doesn't do well in any of my low light tanks, that's for sure. In my low light tanks, it kinda looks nice for the first few weeks, then sloooowly breaks down. :/

Do you know the scientific names for red/purple cabomba? I thought they were strains of caroliniana but that was a dumb confusion on my part.

Is this like a stem plant? Can I trim the tops when it gets to big and plant it/ share it? :D

it looks green, but the structure looks like red or purple. i have green and it is more uniformly radial while you can see these have more defined clumps of leaflets. mine seems to grow narrower and taller too. it looks like red to me, but it could be green, the second picture makes me think twice. the appearance can vary a lot depending on lighting/nutrients

and yes, you can cut and plant it, but it may grow on runners and propogate itself. mine does, but i'm not sure about the other species. mine grows enough little runners that i pull them out on a regular basis, and then have to throw them away because they are illegal  :roll
