Indonesian Tigerfish - Datnioides microlepis

Datnoid not doing well. Cannot equilibrate and maintain buoyancy. Lays on the bottom or among the roots of pothos growing out the top of the tank. I attempted a swim bladder venting procedure a couple of weeks ago but it didn’t work. The abdomen is distended on one side only. Still managing to eat… looking for a fish vet. I’m worried it’s a tumor. It’s around 9 years old, 18 inches. :(

I’m sorry to hear that! They are amazing fish.

I’ve been trying to get one to raise up but have only been able to source them from local hobbyist with questionable sources….

Your care for end of life is top tier! Where did you find a vet who had this type of knowledge?
Thank you my friend. It took a lot of phone calls! They had a couple of vets who treated ornamental fish so off to Bothell I went. Only fish I’ve ever done that for. A big reason is that it was my wife’s favorite.

I was super lucky because Aquarium Paradise had one and it was reasonable at $50 for a 3” one. The other good option for a small one is to order online. Monsteraquariumon9.com has them

Smartest and most composed fish I’ve owned. Natural tank boss.

Sorry to hear about this; it's always hard to say goodbye, even when the end is inevitable. If I ever come back as a fish, I will want to be in one of your tanks.
