Hi All,

My name is Roy and I finally got around to signing up for this forum! I have visited the site on several occasions and I like the "local" flavor. I have been involved with aquariums on and off for over 40 years as a fish keeper and breeder. After a multi-year sabbatical three years ago I become re-involved in the hobby after seeing what was happening with planted aquariums. I am active with the Greater Seattle Aquarium Society (GSAS) where I am a chairperson on two of the committees and on the Board of Directors; I have been a "Mod" on Aquatic Plant Central, and am active on that forum as well as TPT. I look forward to chatting with some GSAS friends here as well as making new friends.

Welcome to the fishbox dude. I join the gsas about two months ago but I'm not keeping any fresh water tanks at the moment. Well I'm going to star a five gallon tank I might hit you up for some tips. Oh that tank on the pic looks amazing you should upload more pics

Hi sidekicking,

Thanks for the greeting! Although a lot of our GSAS members have Saltwater, the club is more geared to the freshwater crowd. I would be glad to offer some pointers on a planted aqurium for you when you decide to get started.

Hey Roy - welcome to the Box. Looking forward to seeing more of your tanks and hearing your guidance, esp. for our planted tank and shrimp folks.

Hi Larry,

LOL! It's good to see a fellow GSAS member here. I will be glad to share my planted aquarium experience. As for shrimp; so far I have managed to kill every ship I have purchased so I will looking for guidance in that area. I am beginning to suspect that the problem may be the copper pipes in my home.

Hi Roy and welcome. I'm also a member of GSAS -- joined shortly before Ad Konings came to speak. I was lucky enough to win his Lake Tang book as the door prize that night! :D

I'm going to try to be at the plant auction on the 8th, looking for any easy beginner plants.

It's nice to have you here.

Hi Betty,

I am always glad when new members win the door prizes! Ad Konings did a great talk and although I am not into African cichlids I do have some Apistos.

The Annual Plant Auction (which also includes fish and inverts) will have some common, uncommon, and "rarely seen" species. The time is a little earlier than the normal meetings; doors open at 6:30 for previewing and the Auction starts at 7:00PM.

Thank you for the welcome!

Hi momsfishn,

Thanks for the welcome! Since getting to meetings is difficult for you hopefully you are aware that a lot of awesome speaker presentations are available for download via Bitorrent for our members. Being into aquascaping and plants I really like the Karen Randall and Tom Barr talks.
