Hi everyone! I am happy to have discovered this forum just for us Washingtonians!
I am a fish hobbyist, love my tanks, and wish I had more.
My husband and I recently founded a non-profit org to rescue unwanted aquarium and pond fish.
Our idea is to prevent fish from being released into the environment, and to re-home fish that are no longer wanted for whatever reason.
Come on by and visit our new website http://www.nwfishrescue.com
We have 2 tanks: 55 gallon and 10 gal. Oh I also have a tiny desktop tank I put my guppy moms in to spawn.
On my facebook page I have some photos of our Goldfish when they were younger, and some of other fish from various places.

I am looking forward to learning and sharing on this forum!

Pam

Welcome to the site!

Where are you going to be putting these rescued fish? I've noticed a lot of the un wanted fish are large ones that people no longer can house or they are big and aggressive so they beat up on all their other fish.

We have a large yard, it's on a slope, and we are planning to put in some large livestock tanks with pond liners. They will be covered with netting as we live on the Hood Canal and have many flying predators to contend with. We will also fence the area, including a high electric fence and a low electric fence. We have many years experience with chicken keeping and will utilize the things learned about keeping them safe to help us with the fish.

A tank like that would not take long to set up, but we are planning on putting one up this summer asap in case of rescue. In the mean time we are collecting any free tank and equipement we can get our hands on. Any size!

We have a shed we are fitting for the smaller tanks and for the fish that require warmer water.

How does that sound? I think we are ok.

Ideas are welcome!!!!

That sounds great! Good for you guys its a nice thing you are doing.

If I can come up with any ideas I'll let you know but it sounds like you have it covered!

What are you going to do with the un wanted fish? Try to find them new homes, keep them?

We have some plans for unwanted fish:

If healthy either:
Keep
re-home
re-sell

If ill either:
treat if reasonable
euthanize if not

I plan on posting fish for adoption on local forums, including this one.
