Eggs in my community tank!

Yesterday after returning home from my favorite LFS with some 10 more Neons and 4 Clown Killies, we did a a 20% water change on the 55g community tank. This morning I noticed a scattering of eggs! I Found more tonight, looks to be 15-20 eggs. No idea who they came from, I'm pretty sure either the Pearl Danios or the Australian Rainbows are responsible although I'm really hoping the Furcata pair I got a couple weeks ago are the parents but I think they are too young. I'm so excited!

Congrats but how are you going to prevent eggs from being eaten by the other fishes

I'm Going to pull the plants or at least the leaves with the eggs on them and put them in a breeder net in the tank. The ones stuck to the logs and glass will have to fend for themselves till I can catch them.

Any eggs on the substrate? Im excited and its not even my fish. :

It's hard to tell, it looks like all the eggs are attached to leaves and logs. A couple stuck to the glass. but I didn't seen any in the gravel.

I'm excited too! I need more tanks!

Congrats on the eggs. I hope you get them to hatch and solve the mystery of who laid them.

they look a lot like some random eggs my snails would leave behind.. you dont have any in that tank do you?

Hmm, they do look like my Nerite snail eggs. Scattered around the tank, stuck to random surfaces.

Yeah, I hate to be a negative nancy, but they do look like they're possibly nerite eggs... albeit big nerite eggs, the ones I get usually look smaller than that. If they stay around and you keep finding more and more of them attached to things, they are probably nerite eggs, which won't hatch in fresh water.

Even if you don't think you have any, they might have hitched in on a plant or something. I find their eggs kind of annoying when they decide to redecorate my whole tank, especially since they will stay there for quite a while, but they do a good job cleaning my sand

Yep, just picked up 2 nerite snails last week. No worries then, I can focus on getting a breeder tank for the Furcatas.

Well lets sort this out Species by species,,,Seem a bit large for Nerites, the sparklers are bubble nesters so they're out,, (eggs too big anyways) Rainbows are egg scatteres and so are danio's, Hmmm Neons will lay on leaves but eggs are too big for them as well, Killies nah not enought eggs, Pleco's? Otocats? yes one of the two I'd say Use Methaline blue to keep fungas/bacteria from infecting them. Good luck!!

My nerite snails laid eggs like that for a few weeks when I first got them, which got to the point that it was sort of annoying, but they seem to have slowed down now. Maybe they somehow eventually realize that laying all those eggs is doing them no good

I'd urge caution if you use methylene blue in a display tank.
it's effective when used to inhibiting and killing bacteria but this could affect the beneficial bacteria in your main tank.
when used as an anti fungal or antibacterial it is recommended it be used in a qt or hatching tank because of this.
