Does anyone know if it's actually "ILLLEGAL" ??

Can i take driftwood off the beach ??? Ok, i've been searching the web for a straight answer and haven't been able to find one..
I was at the beach this weekend with my kids and saw a sweet piece but was too chicken to grab it.. lol The last thing i want is for my kids to see their dad get busted my the cops or some other agency for stealing to doing illegal crap. I saw signs that said no "driftwood fires" but none that said you can't take any.. :suspect: Any help would be great..
I was at the lfs this weekend and saw the perfect piece i wanted until i saw the $6.99 a friggin pound for it, which equaled $90.00

I was always under the assumption that it IS illegal, but have no evidence for you to back that up. I have done it a couple of times and never got caught. I know its illegal to take from a state park. Im sure if a ranger saw you taking from the beach they would say something because it is taking from a natural environment but they would probably just tell you to put it back, I doubt they would cause a scene or anything

I always thought it was illegal also, but the more i look into it i have found NOTHING to back it up either.. I know they wouldn't throw me in jail or something over it I just want to make sure before i go jacking wood from the beach..lol

i really think it depends on the size......if its smaller and you can carry it i don't think they mind as much (ie smaller branch types) ...but if your trying to take a 40' log out of there i think would differently say something

I hear ya.. I'm just looking for a good sized piece for my 300..
I'd love to take a few logs though. I've always wanted to make a bad a$$ fire pit in my back yard and use some of those big logs to put around it for seating like a beach bon fire.. :D

you should of just asked the DOT people if they minded they would of probably given it to you so it wouldn't wind up in the ferry or have to remove it themselves

I've wondered about this too. I never could find anything official about Washington state, but I have seen signs (some official looking and others not) that state not to remove anything. It's an important part of the ecosystem, prevents erosion, things like that.

One of the not-so-official-looking signs when we were at the Dungeness Spit. :)

Riffe lake has a ton of drift wood on the east side of the lake.... (Long ways from Lynwood though) Maybe another local resevoir in your area would have some.....
