Just curious is anybody has experience with HMF? Any problems with circulation and temps when powered by air stone?

No problems with circulation or Temps. Just water changes. When you change water, and debris in the sponge above the waterline tend to fall back into the tank.

It's like picking a sponge filter up out of the water, it bombs the tank with debris. Other then that, the disadvantage is fish always find a way behind them. Jumping over , or around etc. I realize in your mind you're thinking, just cut it tight... Trust me I did... and they still find a way. At the wet spot in portland oregon, they have them installed in their sales tanks and have the same problems.

That said, they do have a ton of bio capacity.

I have one tank set up with the HMF filter. I'm unsure how to do maintenance on it (do you just pull it occasionally and squeeze like other sponges???) but other than that I love it. Here's the tank.

I love the HMF. Kindof a plug and go filter. I have a hard time and worry about cleaning the foam but everything I've read says it may be a long long time before I have to do that. And when I do substrate maintenance and water changes, I just power the strip off that that everything runs on and then power it back on when done. No priming of HOB's or anything...no impellers that don't start...love it. I have my heater behind the foam also so the back of the tank looks clean. My water is always crystal clear.
