Another Pacu Needing A Home

So yeah, I'm a dope. Irresponsible even. I saw a post on Craigslist (how many tales of woe start that way, I wonder?) for 2 oscars and a pleco. I really wanted the oscars and so didn't ask about the pleco.

I met the people in a Dairy Queen parking lot at night where they handed over a bucket with a bag in it. I didn't look inside the bag and just took it home. Imagine my surprise to find two 10" oscars and a 12" pacu in the bucket.

I know that pacu can live for many years and are 3 to 4 feet long in their maturity so I know that Paco the pacu is not going to fit into any of my aquariums. I feel really bad about this and I would like to make it right if I can.

This all happened within the last week and I need to find him a new home if at all possible. Does anyone have any ideas? I think I'll start with calling some lfs and then what about commercial aquarium people who might want a large fish in one of their tanks?

Not sure where you live mate, but if your in Peirce County Aquarium Paradise has a tank just for your lil(or not so little) friend. Got to commend you on not just dumping him in a river or sending him to the fishbowl in the sky. Have to wonder about somone who writes PLECO but meant PACU. Would love to take him but all my big tanks have fish that would prolly kill it. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm in Seatac so not that far away. Yeah, the switch in words pacu and pleco is unfortunate to say the least. They seem such different kinds of fish, hard to mistake one from the other.

So I put an ad on Craigslist and finally got a response from a guy whose "friend" has a 300 gallon tank and 2 other pacus and can take Paco. We went back and forth over email and after a couple of communications the guy asks *me* for a re-homing fee of "$15-$20" for food and labor. When I refuse he lowers the "fee" to $10. Also, after going back and forth a few times he says Paco would be living in a 120 gallon tank alone.

From what I've read 120 gallons aren't enough and the so called re-homing fee is just too much. I called Aquarium Paradise in Peirce County and they say they can take him. Wish us luck.

rehoming fees.....for fish? pretty sure what is supposed to be happening is one is SELLING said fish. Though I can see if someone asks for gas money to come get it if they have to go to your house. And besides if "friend" guy wants it show them the ad and THEY can contact you about it....

good luck getting him a home at Aquarium Paradise!

Done. Paco has a new home at Aquarium Paradise now. They didn't say much of anything, just took him and said thanks. I forgot to ask how big their big tank is but it was pretty full of pretty damn big fish. The first thing that happened was that a catfish swam up and sucked one of Paco's fins into its mouth. It didn't hurt him and his fin was fine it was just weird. Thanks for the advise, I'm really glad it worked out.

That is absolutely nucking futz! Asking YOU for a rehoming fee? So he wanted the fish but wanted you to pay him? THe logic there eludes me. The only time I have ever heard/used rehoming fee is to show comittment and value. If you give someone a free animal there isnt alot of percieved value to it. If they have to pay even $10 then psychologically it has more value. Glad it went to Aquarium Paradise. That guys story changing makes me think it might have ended up in a 55g lol. Dom will take care of it, and someone will eventually buy it for prolly $50.
