Angel Orgy

Now that I have your attention…

I had an interesting thing happen in my 135 gallon community tank. Among other things, I have 9 angels in the tank and they appear to be getting to that age. The other night, the 3 gold angels got together and the two females started laying eggs together on the overflow stack and then the male was trying to fertilize all of them. They didn't exactly know what they were doing though, as the females were not attaching them very well - the rest of the angels and black tetra school had a good snack. Then the next night the two black angel did the same thing (only 2 this time).

I assume that the two females with one male was was more a factor of them just figuring things out. The tank is pretty chaotic (nothing more aggressive than the angels) and the angels all get along pretty well – for now at least. If I put the three-way combo in their own tank, would the male mate with both the females or just choose one?

I have a convict I am trying to re-home in the free section along with some bala sharks. As soon as I clear them out of the tank, going to put one of the 3 paired off groups into that tank and actually try and have a successful hatching.

Attached is a crappy phone pic that is not even of the described incidents – but what the hell, here are the angels.

First off CONGRATS!!!!. More than likely he will pick his mate. Watch to see witch of the 2 that he keeps with and that will be your pair.

Angel fish only get aggressive 2 time for food and when breeding.

i would also be careful of the other "shark" species you have in the tank as they get monstrous, also kinda surprised that those plants are doing so well with all those roseline's. anytime i ever kept them with plants they all got mowed almost immediately. just my two cents, hope u can figure out just how many males you have in the tank as those would be the ones to get hyper aggressive.

I have had pretty good luck with my roseline's I guess. I have a school of around 10 each in both my large planted tanks and in neither have they showed any interest in the plants. My sharks have been pretty mellow too. In this tank, the rainbow and red tail occasionally chase each other around, but leave everyone else alone and each other for the most part. How big do they get? In a different tank, I have a 6 year old red tail that is about 6" and supper mellow - if it is still growing, it is super slow.

As for my male angels, I think I have all the larger ones dialed in and as Murphy's Law would dictate, out of 3 pairing, my coolest looking male is still single.
