When are your rapps Oscars coming in? I’d love to see them mixed into these
I just cant afford it right now. $50 a fish and shipping would be a bit much right now. In the group buy days I might have done it. The hope is that Wet Spot gets some of the crass in. These Oscars are so cool.

For 2" fish at that! lol

Well they did cost him to get them here... and he did have to pay the local kids 10 cents for every fish they brought him. Just joking!

Yeah these are commanding a high price so I cant do that right now. If I remember correctly my Bumble Oscar was about $70 but it was a good 5"+ fish. Then again it was an F2 these guys are wild.

Update: Had to save @lloyd378 favorite oscar from getting picked on so much. The largest and my favorite both nip at it and I felt like it was time for dithers so I added 5 gold skirt tetras and an eclipse cat. The tetras started taking the hits but seemed durable enough for the challenge. The oscars also seemed to nip a little less at each other.

Good call!!!

I saw silver dollars in Walla Walla that were the size of nickels today. Haha if it wasn’t so far away, I’d get you a trio.... 3 for $10 was a great price

I dont know how the skirt tetra will hold up as the oscars get bigger but for now seem to have help them not focus on each other. They are getting some size on them and filling out well.

Having never raised an oscar from this size, I do wonder when I will see characteristics like the eye spot coming in or even a touch of red. I know they wont get red like a tiger Oscar but still would like to see a little sprinkle of color. On MFK a member had one of these and it was about 6” and it was just showing the red coming in. Lol, Im just impatient and want these guys to grow.

I noticed Rapps has up adult pics of the crassipinnis. Not very attractive looking as adults. I like the banding/pattern, but the lack of color and the bland look just dont do it for me. I would not get these now.

No pics update.... lol

Will give you the blurry pics update. These guys are just so active that it is hard to get them to sit still for a pic. Every pic Ive got now is just a blur without enough clarity that I just dot feel they are worth posting. But I know you guys want something to see as to progress.

Oscar #1
IMG_20180412_180205285.jpg

The Gold Skirt Tetras have helped the Oscars open up and become a lot me lively. Not really sure if its helped with the aggression too much since Oscar #2 has multiple tears in the fins (@lloyd378 favorite) and the other two have been caught going at him. But even with that it has been eating well and putting on size. Oscar #1 and #3 are both bold, and despite #1 being bigger/biggest, Oscar #3 has been holding its own quite well. Might get a fin tear here and there but it manages to evade most nips and really looks good.

Oscar #2 looking worse than this pic right now. Tail looks like a comb.
IMG_41318o3.jpg

So the aggression from the biggest oscar got to the point where I put it in time out for the night and will evaluate how long it needs to be there for the other two to heal up. Oscar #2 has such bad shredded fins that its tail looks like a comb and my favorite #3 show some tears now too. Hopefully a couple days and water changes and they will heal up. I was not very fond of the pattern and coloration on #1and judging by its behavior would make a really good solo wet pet. But this makes me think it will have issues in the community when larger. Anyway the two smaller ones have a chance to heal up and hopefully they dont go at each other and make it any worse.

Of course #1 is looking good. Here it is eyeing #2 ready to nip at its fins.

The big one looks good! I’d say he’s too small yet to make a call on adult aggression, but he would probably be a good fish in a solo 75-125

Very outgoing Oscar, this one would make a great solo wet pet. Not sure if he is a typical oscar or if he might even handle himself well with a tad more aggressive fish as tankmates. But he is feisty for sure.

Not happy about my favorite starting to look like Nemo haha
It is looking a bit better with the bully not nipping at him. It seems to be able to fend off the attacks of #3 since they are a bit closer in size. I think I will still keep the bully separate for a couple days to really let him have a better chance. Plus he is getting a lot more food since the bully is not hogging it all. So we will see how it goes.

Sounds like you might need to run to a local petsmart and buy a couple of their tiny 9.99 Oscars to use as dithers.....

They are still too small to make a decision on which one you’re keeping.... that’s why I suggest other fish to spread that aggression out

I would feel bad to do that but I need to figure out something...

Apparently they just like picking on each other right now, the Gold Skirt tetras just didnt work.
