4"+ swordtails?

Ive seen it on many fish profiles that say swordtails can get over 4". Any where from 12-15cm is stated as maximum size. Really? I have always seem then around 2 1/2". Then again that has been in the stores for sale. Any one out there with monster sized swordtails?

I don't have any but Clark's in Bellingham has a few in the tanks they sell plants out of that are that big.

They also have the largest molly I have ever seen ....and black skirt tetra that is freaky huge!

I am a cichlid guy, but have considered adding swordtails because they are actually native fish with many of the Central American cichlids I raise. If they really hit 4" or more they would be pretty safe with the larger fish because they would be too large to eat.

haha yeah but you would have to take like 2 years growing them out that large.

2 years in cichlid life is pretty much full grown and big. These would be tempting little morsels if I could not find them pretty big to begin with.

I've seen some massive mollies before but have not seen the equivalent in swords. I wouldn't be surprised though if they do exist.

I think I will get some now and see if they can make it in the new mix. Been looking for the simple green swordtail and all I find are these fancy things that look engineered.

wild type swords are going to be difficult to locate. once u do find some think about saving some of the babies in a breeder net. not a big seller but definitely a market
