The bottom pic, the one looking to the left has some amazing facial markings!

As of right now, if I owned all three, that one would be in the lead for my keeper

I also like this google image of a tiger Oscar.... but then again, it’s a crap shoot on how his adult markings will look....693B129A-69B5-4C3B-9CF1-91E026C13B37.jpeg

Right now I’m calling the fish by numbers. The one you like I call #1 and is the largest of the three. It tends to show lighter most of the time. The one in the middle is my favorite which is #3. It has the most striking pattern of light and dark. The last is #2 which has a bold dark to light pattern but its all over at this point. From what little Ive seen pics of these guys as adults, I do not expect to see very much red in them but more of the dark to light contrast with a little red freckles in there.

I do like a good red oscar myself and have seen some nice ones, just wanted to have a blank slate with a wild caught that had not been tampered with yet. The second oscar I have seen pics of online and even given a specific name because of the pattern, a ‘map oscar’.

Growing up and raising fish in the 80’s, I remember some really big oscars in my day. I really dont see these big oscars anymore. They all seem like they max at about 12” or less nowadays. So another hope is with wild genes will I see growth that would let me achieve the mythical 18” oscar?

I’ve had three large Oscars in recent months/years

Reggie was the biggest and nicest looking and then two smaller ones that were still at the 12” mark.... one was misshapen and came down with a disease so I had to put it down, the other I rehomed as it wasn’t doing well with my other fish

My two favorites ever were cowboy and tombstone.

Cowboy lived to ten and was 13” tiger, tombstone was a 12” red that was only 8 years old and died shortly after cowboy from what appeared to be depression ( he / she just stopped eating after cowboy was gone)

My only picture of cowboy and tombstone.... this is where cowboy was about 11” and tombstone was only 6 “ or so..... sorry about the quality, but it is a picture of a picture ( with the original pic being taken on a throwaway camera and the phone I used to take the pic was an iPhone 4 lol)38AACF2D-E578-4BFF-9FD7-7ED6C3CE3ED9.jpeg9FCEAC28-C311-4A1D-ACBB-F489DB862F85.jpeg

Dmd, I think you should rethink this and raise out about 5-6 Oscars and out them into your 300 with your bichirs ( way down the road when porkchop passes on)..... I think that would be an epic tank.

I can only imagine what your Oscars would grow to with the care you have shown toward porkchop

Watching the schooling behavior it would be awesome to see that in a group of large oscars

I can't see the latest pics, but I'm sure they are cute.

As they grow older and establish a pecking order, will the subdominant ones not show their true colors around the dominant?

@lloyd378, good looking Oscars! I know the Oscar is looked down on by some cichlid keepers like its too common or something but they really are a intelligent fish with a ton of personality. While they seem to eat anything that fits in their mouth they usually seem to do well with other large fish. I hope mine get along with Porkchop

I find them to be rather peaceful when they have a larger fish in charge.

And to answer Betty, I’ve only owned three at one time once..... way back when, and I didn’t see any of them not show there color because they were subdominant.

Maybe I had all females, or maybe I had a male and two females.... but either way, I raised them up to almost adult size and their color remained.

I’ll also add that in my experience with Oscars..... I’ve found the albino to be the most aggressive

In the top pic, my favorite is still the one swimming on the top.... I just can’t get over the spots all over his face and head.

I also like the one you like for the mere fact that it’s side markings are so unique.
