i drove for almost 5 hours yesterday to pick up these fish

i picked up 2 red shoulder haplachromis
2 dragons blood spotted peacocks
and 2 kyoga flame backs

<img src="http://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz53/justinlux06/012.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> the red shoulders

<img src="http://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz53/justinlux06/019.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> dragons blood

i tried getting some good pics of the flame backs but theyre still too small to get on cam

they are all on the endangered species list and should be ready to breed in a month and a half or so

Jlux - tell me you took our advice got a test kit and checked all your water parameters.... They are super hardy fish you chose as your new fish, but they are also africans so they require a lil different water parameters than the last fish... and shouldnt go with your senegal.... they need Higher PH, harder water... especially if you plan on trying to breed them. They also require small colonies if you plan on breeding... they dont just pair up and breed... I dont think your gonna have much luck unless you get a bunch more. They do look super cool in a mixed community tank the way you have them though.

I dont know who told you they are endangered?? The blood dragon is a hybrid, not even in the wild... so I wouldnt call it endangered. but they are super cool lookin fish.

Let me guess, you bought them from 2 guys (names starting with Br and Bo) live near spanaway.
Bartered with them before. They are a bit expensive. Have a few of their fish also.

However, the fish look nice. Hope they work out. Keep us updated

I cant figure out how to see your pictures from the link you put in there??? can you just upload them on the site? make it easy for everyone to see :)

I really hope they didnt take advantage of you..... here is a site with some decent priceing on lake victorian cichlids.... they are beautiful... and yes, the kyoga flamebacks in the lake are almost non-existant, but you can find them any good victorian cichlid shop/breeder and some good LFS... most the endangered fish you listed you can by for under 10 bucks here. http://www.cichlidstore.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=29 or
http://www.jeffsaquaticlife.com/live-tropical-fish.html

And Im sure you knew that your dragon blood is just a hybrid peacock, you were referrin to the kyoga flamebacks that dont exist in lake vict anymore. :)

A dragon's blood spotted peacock -- I haven't heard of that one, but the fish in that photo doesn't look like a dragon's blood to me. (I could be wrong, it's still very young, but the markings don't look right.)

Ok, I figured out how to look at your pictures..... I dont think that is a blood dragon either. Did the guys you got these from have the blood dragons seperate from the victorians? or were they all in the same tank??? cause they probably crossed between a dragon blood and maybe flameback or the other guys they had...... It kinda looks like an OB peacock.... this is what the dragon blood look like and i am pretty sure they look the same when young.

Dude, good luck! Victorians are not the best choice, in my opinion, for a novice. Besides that, those fish are questionable at best. Like sand said, Africans don't just pair up. If you want breeding action, you best start a colony. In a mixed tank, all you can assure is that you will get hybrids, like those blood dragons.

I actually Pm'd the guy.... I guess he has a bunch of flameback fry, and dragon blood fry..... He was talkin about the adults selling for 65 dollars a piece... which is still ridiculous.... His fry sells for allot less. He still claims them to be nearly possible to find, and is way overpriced for bein a local breeder... when I showed him a retailer that sold them for 5 bucks he didnt reply back to me. lol

Jlux - if your serious about breeding these guys I will be a buyer from ya.... what you need to do is get about 10 -15 more flamebacks from the website I posted early.... Put them all together and let them build a colony... make sure you dont have any other fish in there, so your fry are gurranteed 100% flamebacks. Good luck, and keep us all updated. (glad you didnt loose any money, just some items you didnt need use)

How much is he sellin you the fry??? Maybe allot cheaper than what he told me?? Why would you continue to buy from him if you could get them waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper on that site I showed ya??

Sorry, I didnt PM him, I sent him a email to his craigslist add... he replied back, and we went back and fourth a bit.... but like I said, I kinda called him out on some stuff, so he stopped replying to me. lol

There's a guy named "Patt" (It's not Patt, but rhymes with Patt) on craigslist that sells Africans for $2 each. I emailed him since they sell similar fish and are from the same area. He told me "Br and Bo" sell his fish for him.

Maybe go directly to "Patt" for fish.
