Weird Zigzag Eel Antics

-=Updated=- 1/3/2014
So, I find my Yellow Zigzag Eel comfortably resting in the output of my canister filter. I'm not too concerned about him swimming down the hose and potentially getting diced up with the impeller of the filter. Just thought it was pretty funny to see him in there like that. He likes to swap places and poke his head on the other side, and vice versa.

So, some of you may remember me getting a hex tank, that magically came with one of these little eels... I contacted the previous owner of the tank and said that it was a yellow tail eel, or something to the lines of that, but I just wanted to double check and get a 2nd opinion... here's a video of the said eel that is currently residing in my 55 gallon tank.

Re: ID this Eel Please! :)

Mastacembelus family of fresh water eels. Neat fish, some can get pretty big. Some common ones are tire track eels, fire eels, and zebra eels. Large mouth and very very good at escaping from tanks.

Thanks Zach :) I do have a fire eel that's about 6" at the moment. I do know that they get pretty huge.

However, the one here is different. Which I'm guessing is the yellow tail zigzag eel, which don't get as big. But I just wanted to make sure. Hahaha

It's cute, he thinks I can't see him. He'll hide further in the output and eventually poke his head out. I dropped a frozen cube of blood worms and he darted out of there so fast, LOL!
