Substrate

What's in there now? I actually really like the pea gravel or river rock. It so loose when vacuming everything comes right out with little effort. I heard sand is nice but it has it's own issues. If you get to fine of a sand it gets sucked up into your filters.

Personally I like sand, but I think the substrate choice depends on what you're putting in the tank and what "look" you want it to have.

natural color gravel looks the best IMO or black sand. I hate the look of color gravel

So true. The river rock wasn't good for my Ray so that tank is bare bottom.

Pool filter sand from home depot or mclendons. Wash it in 5 gal buckets only fill sand qtr the way up fill the bucket up half way with water and wash the sand. The 50 lb bag filled my 55 nicely it's a steal at 10 bucks.
