Screwed up pretty good

So, I got a bunch of free fish, and setup a 5 gallon (guppies and platys) to QT them. I have a bunch of whisper 10's, so to setup the new QT tank I just took the filter out of my 5 gallon betta tank to seed the new filter media. I'm glad I setup a QT, because it turns out the fish have a parasite problem.

I noticed over the past week that my normally very docile betta (who doesnt even eat guppy babies) has been chasing the pygmies around. He has a tumor on his side that has not progressed much since it appeared. It doesn't seem to affect him thus far, so I haven't looked too much into treating it. He's remained healthy and happy. today I looked up at the tank (its on top of my desk) and noticed that he suddenly has dropsy.

AGH!

You know what I did? I forgot to put a filter back into the FREAKING FILTER BOX. And now the one that was in there has been sitting in a tank with parasites for weeks. I seem to be missing a pygmy, as well.

Needless to say, I did large water change, put filter media in, and seeded it from one of my healthy tanks. But COME ON.

It's not ich that I can tell. I've never had ich in my home, so I don't think it's that. I think it's just some general illness do to being in an unfiltered tank for two weeks. Water change made him a bit perkier already.

I've had plenty of screw ups myself.

I hope your betta will be okay. I haven't dealt with it much, but the couple of times I've seen it, it didn't turn out well.
