Below was my original thought but was wrong. It was a conversation on that forum but with someone un-verified. Not Stan.
*I think so but I believe only in the Netherlands and other nearby areas. Stan De Jong has talked about them and I *think* he has a small captive colony. After work if I have a minute I'll see if I can find his discussion on them, he's very active in the international forum I'm on.*

I doubt it was ever a hobbyist fish. I'm sure somebody out there has a colony and there's probably colonies established outside the natural range for mosquito control and such. But these would be more academic type collections.
