I can't wait to get things setup for breeding and get pics of his colors then! Him and his son are in a 30gal mixed tank right now, and the females are well rested in a 10gal with about 20 clay pots in it, they seem happy for now.

My son had a pair of these, the male was absolutely stunning. We recently lost the male, but we do have a male from their offspring, he is looking really nice. And at only 2".

See, I have Africans. :joker:

My younger one is about 2" and hardly any coloring yet, probably because he's not the dominant one. Lets see some pics Madness! :D

Your boy is looking really good!  Congrats on the Vics...I love mine.  It's funny, when I first looked at them I was worried about the females not having a lot of color but now that I have them, I love the fact that the females have the subdued silver and gold colorations.  It makes the males stand out all the more.  And the males are "KILLER".  Plus the non-stop action is fun also.

I can't wait until I move! I'm moving my 30gal guppy tank outside for the summer, and setting up another 30gal for the vics to breed. The adult male has been getting harassed by my convict pair in the mix tank, so the sooner the better. Hopefully will have everything moved within two weeks.

Well I got rid of the guppies and put the females in the tank for a few days (I know I should have waited longer) and then added the males. Currently, its my younger male who is showing battle damage, but I can tell you he changed from a juvenile to a male just by his color difference after being with the females.

The dominant female and male are usually playing patty cake in the decoration I have while the younger one is left with the two other females outside in my granite caves I built using free scraps with... You can tell it was free lol

Sorry no photos right now. I will edit them in when I get the chance.

Update and question;

My dominant male is attacking everyone now, even the dominant female he was with. I'm getting pretty worried about all the other fish in there, but I hate to remove him due to aggressiveness. They are in a 30gal tank that is full of hiding places, so I thought it would be a perfect setup, but I guess not. Is there any advice as to what I should do to help keep the peace in this tank? Would adding longfin zebra danios as dithers be worthwhile? How many? I can see why people call these guys the most aggressive Victorian, terribly ruthless. :(

a 30g tank just isnt enough in my opinion. id seriously consider rehoming him/them or giving them a larger tank to themselves.

Well that sucks! Time to trade a couple 30gal tanks then. I have a guy offering me a stack of 3x 90gal tanks for $150, so I guess that's my goal. Time to post some stuff to sell. o_O

I'm in the process of compiling our list of misc aquarium stuff. Mostly so we know what we have to trade and sell, but I have a list of stuff we still want...

POST IT. I wanna rummage though, and possibly buy your crap. >_>

Just thought I would update this. I divided the tank and put the aggressive male on one side alone. The other fish seem happy and healthy now. The ornament in the tank was excavated by the fish and now supplies more hiding spots. I've seen one of the females start holding, but it doesn't last more than a day before they are gone. I'm not sure if I would get any fry from her if I move her to a separate tank on day 1. One of these days I will get a 55. :D

Another update:
I moves the females, pleco, and larger fry into my 55gal. Unfortunately one of the females died (she never really was 100%) as well as a few fry that I assume dies in the bag due to lack of oxygen. The rest of the fish all seem happy and content. The fry are already showing their first colorings and patterns, as well as lip locking for territory. I hope to post some pics either tonight when I get home, or tomorrow because I don't have work. Expect to see these guys at the swap meet later this month!

Here's an update of some of my fish. I have two 55gal tanks devoted to Africans, one with females/juvies, the other with males.
My albino male is starting to color up and look amazing

The father of all the babies, dull because bored.... lol

And a baby fiercely defending his territory around the java fern.
