Went to a place for pets this mourning, mostly just to hang with kevin a bit. But while I was there I couldent help but browse the fish section. In doing so I came across a tank with pair of Tomocichla Sieboldii. They had fry and were only about inch and a half long. I couldent help it they were so cute viciously defending there fry from the others in the tank. I had to get them. So I did, I got home and tried to decide where to put them, they are too aggresive for my little guy tank, and to small for any of my big guy tanks. Soo I threw together a 10 gallon for them under one of my big tanks and figured I will let them stay there for a few months untill I figure something out. I want to adventully put them with my istlanums in a 75+. But for now the istlanums are in the 110 and there in a 10. Couple months I ifgure they will have another half inch or so on them, then I will start pushing for my 75. Will post pics in a few hours when the water clears up some.

There's the video of them in the shop. They were defending about 50 fry. I left the fry so the other fish could eat them and taste what they had been getting chased away from. They were wiglers and not even free swimming yet... I hope these guys spawn again soon. Would love to see them in those breeding colors again, but this time from home.. kevin said there from conkel so I will have to see what generation they are. Anyway thanks for looking.

Conkels website says "rio culebra costa rica". So I'm assuming there f1 of his wild caught stock from that location. But who knows. Maybe I should call or email and see if he knows.

A No on all your ?'s. She is F1. I just finally purchased another fish what I think is a male for her about a week ago. Ya, they are not hanging together. Not at all. The colors in the pic are the spawning colors, but mine stays that way all the time. :D

Awesome fish, and from what I have read, they are very mean when they have fry. Like deadly mean. They can reach 10" i believe.

So I had to rearange the tank some because my male was going ape..... on the female. I also added a little convict to take some of the beating so the female dosent get it all. Also in my breeding experiance, its much easier to trigger a spawn if the pair have something to defend against. Anyway the water is clear the fish are eating and besides the male freakin out here and there, all is well. I took some pictures but there not that good. The male is always on the go and to get the shots I did took an hour and a half of shooting and then a half hour of pulling out the unuseable pictures. I took 451 pictures and only got these:

This is there home, a lot more structure. I had to give the female somewhere to hide.

These are the female she holds still long enough to get a decent picture.

Here's the male, he is impossible to get a good picture of. So I have several pictures that show parts of him and how good he looks. He has a lot more red then comes through in most pics. He also has a lot of colorful spots that are only visible here and there.
You can see his spots in this one pretty good.

And here you can see the red in his fins.
IMG_20110919_114052.jpg

This one shows the green in his face, along with a hint of red in his belly.

And this one gives you a hint of it all, but its washed out and blurry.

Sorry there not that good, they will be when these guys settle down a little. I am really digging these guys, loads of personality, active, attractive, and proven breeders. I am happy I got them. I hope you enjoyed. I will have to do a short video of them when they calm down a bit more.

Wait till they are ready to spawn again. The colors are amazing. One of my favorites. The male that I just bought has a nasty tear in the body just before the tail. Something got a hold of him.

Very nice pair, they are awesome fish.

Thanks guys, I don't even really know what a good one looks like. I have never seen them before. There relly cool I like them alot. Do you have any pictures of your male? And how big is your female? I saw them in spawning color they looked great. I kinda wish the male would hold onto it s red spots and green undertone when the spawned. It would be great if the red got brighter. But I guess they don't do that. I was attracted to them because of there breeding color, then when they changed to normal I started to like them more. There color is so subtle and attractive to me. It had me reading all night on all the tomocichla. I want tuba now. Those are really cool looking and there breeding patern is just as impresive as the sieboldii. I figured out a new tank I want to do centered around a geographical region where these guys are from. The rio coloradito has altifrons, lyonsi, and sieboldii all in the same system.... that would be an awesome tank.. I need a bigger house.

Shes young and stupid and will regret the decisions she chose and will probably go into the fish porn business.
