This was in a river near my house. Just wondering what it is. It looks a lot like a plant I used to keep in my aquarium when I was a kid, forever ago.

It is hard to tell from the photo how big they are. What is the length of some of the longest runners?

It's been awhile since I was down there. I'd guess a bit shorter than 12".

I think elodea is the plant I was thinking about. Does it look like that?

It sure looks like that is what it is. I want some for my aquarium. What river did you see it at?

I live in Mckenna near the Nisqually River. I guess I'll have to go back down there and take a closer look at it to see if I can get better pics, if it's even still there. (I took these pics last summer.) Doing a little research online, Brazilian elodea is an invasive species and is illegal to sell in WA, but there is also a native type of elodea. I know there are rules about harvesting native plants from WA waters and I think they are posted somewhere on the forum. I wonder about non-native invasive species.

Found the forum post about collecting, etc. http://www.wafishbox.com/forums/thr...d-animal-species-state-and-federal-laws.7948/

Its is Brazilian elodea....back in our day it was sold as Anacharis. It has become an invasive species, like Myriophyllum.
