Hello! Newbie to the hobby but excited to learn everything!

Hi there!

I'm from Sammamish, WA and new to the aquarium hobby, but loving it so far! At the moment keeping one beautiful betta in a 6g and trying to decide on what my next larger tank will be! Also, I like classical music and sing opera. For work I do tech PR which keeps my nerdy little heart happy. So part geek, part artiste, ha ha! Anyhow, glad to find a community of fellow people to geek out about fish since it's my latest obsession. As a beginner, curious to know if there are blogs or magazines you read on the aquarium trade? Recommendations welcome!

Thanks all!

Well welcome aboard.
As for blogs, not really. Lots of info on the web. Any particular type of fish that you are thinking about wanting to raise?

Hello ittybittybetta,
Glad you joined up :) I hope you post a picture so we can see your set up and new Betta.

I also am subscribed to a couple other forums such as Emerald City fish keepers, shelldwellers.com, and theplantedtank.com. All have good readings and neat forums. WashingtonFishBox is where it's at for me though for the most part. I also belong to GSAS (Greater Seattle Aquarium Society). GSAS is super fish nerdy and they have events, auctions, speaker events, ect.

If you are on Facebook there are more than a few fish/aquatic societies on there. Perhaps surf around a bit and check them out.

Oh yeah, Welcome :D

:) Yes, working on getting a good photo of my betta!

Thanks for the recommendations, fishNAbowl! Also, Madness - thinking about getting a larger tank and doing Rainbowfish. Any advice about where to find out more about them? :D

GOOGLE SEARCH: Species of Rainbow fish - Web for info, images for pictures.

http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/rainbowfish/

At the bottom of the link above there are individual links to different species.

Have fun :D

Welcome to the box! If you're looking for magazines, TFH is pretty good. Also check out amazonas. I think you can usually find a few back issues of TFH at your local fish stores (even petco carries them). In the info resource website arena, seriouslyfish.com is great for FW community fish. www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk is interesting for info on the other side of the world.

As far as blogs, I usually check out Goliad, and Ball aquatics:

http://ballaquatics.com/

Some of our members also have interesting blogs too! (check out swamp-rat's for some awesome diy ideas)

Also, if you're thinking rainbowfish search for Gary Lange. He was here a few months ago for a GSAS presentation and I think a few folks here have visited his fish room. That should give you way more info than you expected :D
